Is your strum/picking arm supposed to rest on the body?

I've been resting my arm...just underneath my elbow on the top of the body while picking....but sometimes I find it hard to go from playing a lower string back to a higher one quickly like this.

I tried keeping my arm completely off which worked for a bit until it got really heavy.

Is it supposed to rest there?

It is normal to rest your arm on the body of your guitar.

The trick is to find the most comfortable spot for your arm to be in position to be parallel with your strings.
