hey That's what I say

When I'm watching my t.v.
And a man comes on and tells me
How white my shirts could be
But he - can't be a man cos' he doesn't smoke
The same cigarettes as me
I can't get no,
oh no no no.

When I'm riding around the world
And I'm doing this and I'm signing that
And I'm trying to meet some girl
Who tells me "Baby better come back maybe next week,
Cos you see I'm on a losing streak"
I can't get no,
oh no no no.

You Can't Always Get What You Want

The Original Version of this was done in Open E
These Days Keef does it in Open G, and it can also be played in standard tuning
with no ill effects. This is the original Version done in Open E (EBEG#Be) with the
Capo on the 8th Fret.

Here is the Chord structure for those unfamiliar with Open Tunings

E B E G#B E
+ + + + + +
(C) E: 0 0 2 0 0 0
(F) A: 0 2 0 1 2 0
(D) F#: 2 2 2 2 2 2

Now that all the disclaimers are in place the song is simplicity itself, just
repeat those 3 chords over and over

After all that, the song itself is just pounding out
the chords:

C F C F...
C F
I saw her today at the reception
C F
A glass of wine in her hand
C F
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
C F
At her feet was a footloose man

Chorus:
C F
You can't always get what you want
C F
You can't always get what you want
C F
You can't always get what you want
D
But if you try sometimes,
F
You might find
C F C F
You get what you need... ahhhhhhh, yeah.....

I went down to the demonstration,
To get my fair share of abuse.
Singing "we're gonna vent our frustration,
And if we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse."

You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,
But if you try sometimes well you might find
You'll get what you need.

I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled.
I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy,
And man, did he look pretty ill.
We decided that we would have a soda,
My favorite flavor, cherry red.
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy,
And he said one word to me, and that was "dead,"
I said to him:

You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You'll get what you need, ...oh yes

[instrumental]
You'll get what you need--yeah, oh baby.

I saw her today at the reception,
In her glass was a bleeding man.
She was practiced at the art of deception,
Well I could tell by her bloodstained hands.

You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You'll get what you need.

You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You'll get what you need.

When you were a child you were treated kind
But you were never brought up right.
You were always spoiled with a thousand toys
But still you cried all night.
Your mother who neglected you
Owes a million dollar tax.

Of making ceiling wax.

It only seems to make matters worse.

You were still in school when you had that fool
Who really messed your mind.
And after that you turned your back
On treating people kind.
On our first trip I tried so hard

You were disarranging mine.

Don't take this as a critisism - you have put so much effort into this its a shame it doesn't line up. I had this problem all the time, so i can empathise with you on this!!

easy solution.

Do it all in Word. Set the font on the whole lot to Courier, 9 point.

when you're ready to insert the tab here, click on the "code" button above and a box will appear on the screen like this-
(code).

then paste your work immediately after the code. Then click on code again.

hey presto - its perfect.

thanks for your efforts - they are appreciated greatly

Matt

Strange I took out the code and /code tags generated but the buttons and manually put them in and it fixed the tabs

Okay- I gotta ask- how do you play G and G sus9 in open D tuning (like in Street Fighting Man)?

I'm trying to figure it out. I know how to play G, but without knowing how to play G sus9 I can't figure out the best place to play the chord.

RJN, the G chord is easy enough - a barre across the 5th fret, 555555....

For the Gsus9.....technically is doesn't exist, but a Gsus2 is simply an inversion of Dsus4, which would be 000100

for the particular change though, try 555555 for the G and 557565 instead of the Gsus9.....

Hope this helps....
