Another way to play this is to use a C-Am-Dm-G7 progression in the verses and include a C7 after verse 2 to transition into the Chorus (and after Verse 3 to lead into the Chorus a 2nd time).

In the Chorus, I use a "4-fingered" F chord which is strummed as an argeggio, then slide to Em using 4th & 5th fingers and a similar arpeggio strum. Similar to the verse section, a C7 is inserted (this time after the C("Day"). The D and G chords are replaced with a D7 and G7 respectively.

It's not in the original, but to add a little "fanfare," I sometimes play the Intro as:

e-------------------- ------------------------------
B-------------------- ------------------------------
G----0h2----0h2--- -0h2--0-------------------
D------------------- -----------2--0------------
A-------------------- ------------------3---------
E-------------------- -------------------------------

The last note is the first note of the C chord and the C-Am-Dm-G7 is played arpeggio-style, two times, and leads into the strum on Verse 1. Be sure to hold the first two hammer-ons for a full 2 beats each.

Trivia: In the early days the Beatles were rejected by one record executive as "sounding too much like the Everly Brothers" !!!

"Music hath charms to soothe a savage breast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak."

What strumming pattern can be used for this song?
I'm a beginner looking for easy songs and I do like this one, but i'm not sure how to figure out a strumming pattern yet.

Thanks.
PS. Just noticed it contains an F chord :( (not the easiest one to do)

Hello Wasted Dreams, welcome to the world of guitar and to GuitarNoise in particular. My previous comment in this thread is probably confusing without the related tab, so I'll post it below.

* In my view, the beauty of this song lies in its innocence and simplicity. (Im not saying it's necessarily simple to play . . . rather, it's an uncomplicated love song.) Try the intro. You won't find it on the recording, but the first 3 bars will let you work on your hammer-on technique without having to do so in the middle of a song which can be a bit more difficult. This little opening fanfare will get the attention of your audience (even if it is only your spouse, sibling, or the family dog!)

* Next, try the arpeggios in the intro. Sometimes less is more! Nothing is easier than strumming a chord in order from low string to high! The advantage here is the strum is slowly done which gives you plenty of time to change chords, and they are the same ones used in the verses so it "preps" you for the song.

* See end of tab for strumming suggestions.

* Finally, it's hard to get around that pesky F chord isn't it? While the version below eliminates it in the major portion of the verses, it still shows up in the last line of the verses and in the chorus. Plus, if you want to play the arpeggio in the chorus you must use the 4-fingered F/C chord (x3321) in order to play the base note on the 3rd fret of the 5th string. Just a suggestion, but I would learn the 4-fingered mini-bar version (x33211). I wish someone had told me to do so when I first started to play. It's not that much harder to learn than the 3-fingered shape (xx3211) and will pay big dividends in the future. (i.e. you can go to an Em or E chord by simply sliding down a fret and lifting a finger or two; and when you start learning full bar chords, you're practically there for the E-shaped bar chord. Of course, if you don't want to play the arpeggio in the chorus, just strum whatever F chord shape you desire.

Hope this helps!
