This is basically the version I play at open mikes. It makes a great opening number. In order to give a sense of the rhythm, when necessary I'll put letters above the tab. q. means dotted quarter note (1.5 beats), q means quarter note (one beat), e means eighth note (.5 beats). Listen to the recording to get a sense of the syncopated rhythm if it sounds weird just playing it straight. The chords at the ends of the intro, fills, and instrumental break are just the chords that start the next part of the strumming, so there's no rhythm attached there. If the stretches in Fill 4 are difficult, try playing the lower notes on the G string and muting the B string. Further, if any part of any fill is too hard, you can just strum the indicated chord. But that's not nearly as fun as playing the fancy stuff (which is really all based on the same 4 or 5 double stops). Eventually I'll record this, but for now you should be able to get a good sense from Van's original version. Enjoy, and let me know if you have any questions. Feedback is, as always, greatly appreciated.

Think this is the third time this has made it into the ESD!

However, I know the version I posted just has a simple intro and the main chords.....thanks for sharing, JT, I'll have to try this one.

:D :D :D

Thanks for this! I've only just joined the site but am rapidly become aware of the wealth of information and knowledge here! This is one of those songs I've have always liked but never even thought about playing on the guitar! Just played it now though, that intro riff is very catchy!

Thanks so much for the song as I've played the chords for years but was always too lazy to figure out the fills. One question though and if it is explained somewhere else on the site I apologize but when I intially looked at the song, the instrumental break was wrapped around making it difficult to read the tab. However looking at the tab before I submit this it is not (??). Can anyone suggest what I can do to prevent this other than copying and pasting into WordPad? Thanks

Sorry about that, the new layout must have a set parameter for code tags.

Another way, if you look towards the top right, there's a "print view" icon/button, click that and preview, select and copy from there.

Like the look of that intro there
I usually play it as one note
And it sounds dead
I wil give this a go later

Many are called but few are chosen.
