Just wondering if anyone knows the strum pattern.. the song is fairly easy (D G C) but after listening to the song for about a week I still can't get the strumming pattern down.. if anyone is interested in this song let me know and I will post the lyrics and chords for it when I get a chance ( at work right now)

I wanna Rock N Roll all night... Ahh who am I kidding I'll be in bed at 9 pm....

This is a pretty complex pattern overall

Whats played on the D and the G is really a strum then a pulloff on the D's and a strum then a hammeron on the G's
D G D G
|-2-2p0-2-0h2-3-3---3-3---|-2-2p0-2-0h2-3-3---3-3---|
|-3-3---3-3---5-5p3-5-3h5-|-3-3---3-3---5-5p3-5-3h5-|
|-2-----2-2---4-----4-4---|-2-----2-2---4-----4-4---|
|-0-----0-0-----------0---|-0-----0-0-----------0---|
|-------------5-----5-----|-------------5-----5-----|
|-------------3-----3-0---|-------------3-----3-0---|

The rest of the rhythm is played on the Em and A and the pattern for them seems to be DUD_DUDU

The way the song is played it is the D & G for the into and verse 1 then the chorus is the Em & A for part of it then back to the D & G. Then verse 2 is the D & G again. Verse 3 is D & G again then the chorus is Em & A then the outro is D & G again.

You may just want to just try the DUD_DUDU pattern for the 3 chords and see how it sounds. Probably work

I think if you play the D & G as

"D" - DUD then pick the high e on the way back up
"G" - as D_D_D then pick the high e on the way back up.

Then play the Em & A as DUD_DUDU

Alternating as I outlined above for chorus and verses it comes off pretty good.

Thanks Nils.. My Dad was a big Cat Stevens fan.. and my daughter heard that song for the first time ( she is 4) and wants Daddy to learn it so I can sing it to her.. I kept hearing the DDUDUD when I was listening it but I also work in a call center so it is sometimes hard to hear with all those voices going at once.

Also how do you tell a Hammer-on or Pull off in standard music notation?? I have a Cat stevens Song book that is written for piano and guitar that is all in Standard Notation no tabs.. just curious since all the music notation I have seen have been for standard play songs (Hal Leonard)

My pleasure. This at least gets you started and when you make it your own your daughter will love it.

By the way, I was a big Cat Stevens fan also.

That's hard to explain without pictures so try these links. They explain it pretty well

One on this site

One on acoustic guitar

You may also want to look at using PowerTab Editor if you don't already since it shows both Tab and Notation which is very helpful
