Creedence Clearwater Revival – Up Around The Bend
This has long been one of my favourite songs – probably because it's so easy to play!
- So I thought I'd have a go at tabbing it. Rather than just slavishly ape the original, I'll try and get as close as I can while arranging it in such a way that it can be played on one guitar rather than rhythm and lead.
INTRO – I think this is pretty close –
E------10------------10------------5--------------10-------
B--------10--10--------10--10--------5---5----------10—10--
G--9s11----11----9s11----11----4s6-----6-----9s11----11----
D-0-------------0---------------------------0-------------
A-----------------------------0----------------------
E----------------------------------------------------
(REPEAT)
However, this is supposed to be the EASY song database, so here's an alternate version that works almost as well –
E ------------------------------------------------------------
B --------3-------------3---------------2-------------3-------
G ------2---2---2-----2---2---2-------2---2---2-----2---2---2-
D -0-0--------4---0-0-------4-------2-------2---0-0-------4---
A ------------------------------0-0---------------------------
E ------------------------------------------------------------
(REPEAT)
The rest, as they say, is fairly plain sailing.
First verse –
(D)There's a place up ahead and I'm goin',
(A)Just as fast as my feet can (D)fly,
Come away, come away if you're goin',
(A)Leave the sinkin' ship be(D)hind.
Chorus –
(G)Come on the (D)risin' (A)wind,
We're (G)goin' up a(D)round the (A)bend, oooh,
2nd verse-
Bring a song and a smile for the banjo,
Better get while the getting's good,
Hitch a ride to the end of the highway,
Where the neon's turn to wood.
Chorus, then 3rd verse -
You can ponder perpetual motion,
Fix your mind on a crystal day,
Always time for good conversation,
There's an ear for what you say.
Chorus, then repeat intro.
Then there's a short solo –
The rhythm plays the same chords
As in the chorus.
4th verse –
Catch a ride to the end of the highway,
And we'll meet by the big red tree,
There's a place up ahead and I'm goin',
Come along, come along with me.
Chorus then as the song fades out –
E-------5------5-----5-------5-----5--
B—5h7—--5h7---5h7---7-5h7---5h7---7-
G---------------------------------------7
Easy enough to play, but a complete (insert your favourite expletive here) to tab.
Ah, well, it's my first effort, so please be gentle with the critique! Any constructive criticism will, of course, be welcomed.
Vic
Twisted Fingers just pointed out no strumming pattern - for the verses i suggest DUD DUD DUD D and for the chorus all downstrokes, slightly muted with palm. It's one of those songs, though - I always get carried away when i'm playing it so every stroke ends up a downstroke for max volume!!!!
Thanks TF
Alright Vic-
Your 1st tab. You can never go wrong with CCR. I'll give it a try tonight, and let you know how it sounds.
You've put me in the mood. I might tab a CCR song myself. ;D

Liked your nirvana tabs too
Keep the faith and keep on rockin
Rock and Roll is a transient thing - we are merely the custodians. It is our sacred duty to pass it down to the next generation
I said that - anybody wants to use it as a quote, fine by me, think i might use it myself. I have a daughter who listens to "NOW" albums - got a lotta work to do!!!
Hey Wes - If you are going to do a CCR tab, do'nt do "Born on the Bayou" - that's my next project and you'll only show me up if you get there first!!!
Vic
Vic,
I tried this last night, sounded spot on to me. Thanks.
CCR was a great band songs sounded good and you don't have to be Eddie VanHalen or Steve Vai to play em
"This song starts off kinda slow then fizzles out altogether" Neil Young
Vic
Great tab, sounds just right. Takes a little practice to get this down.
I'm gonna do a CCR tab, but not Born on the Bayou, at least not yet. But I promise you'll like it.
