Here's a currently popular song that I really like. I found chords for it on the net but massaged a few of them so I think they sound better. I'm still not sure the bridge is quite right. [Bridge edited on 7/17/06--Thx, Bish!]
Suggestions/improvements welcome.

Of course, you can play it without a capo. Using the capo on the 2nd fret makes the pitch match the recording.

[edit 7/24/06: one general strum pattern that works for this song is: D D/U U/D/U

If you're ready for the FIVE chord version of this song, try this: In the third line of the bridge, above the lyrics "warmth I'll not", replace the Bm and A chords with an F#m chord (barre the 2nd fret and play it
2 4 4 2 2 2), suggested by my guitar teacher]

Margaret

Ever the Same Rob Thomas
(Capo on fret 2)

Chords:
D XXO232 A XO222O G 32OO33 Bm barre 2 X24432

Verse 1

D A G
We were drawn from the weeds, we were brave like soldiers.

Bm A D
Falling down under the pale moonlight

D A G
You were holding to me like someone broken,

G Bm A G
And I couldn't tell you but I'm telling you now.

Bm A G
Just let me hold you while you're falling apart,

Bm A D
Just let me hold you and we'll both fall down.

Chorus 1

D A Bm G
Fall on me, tell me everything you want me to be

G D A G
Forever with you, forever in me, ever the same.

Verse 2

D A G
We would stand in the wind, we were free like water

Bm A D
Flowing down under the warmth of the sun.

D A G
Now it's cold and we're scared, and we're both badly shaken,

G Bm A G
Look at us, man, this doesn't need to be the end.

G Bm A G
Just let me hold you while you're falling apart,

G Bm A D
Just let me hold you and we'll both fall down.

Chorus 2

D A Bm G
Fall on me, tell me everything you want me to be

G D A D
Forever with you, forever in me, ever the same.

D A Bm G
Call on me, I'll be there for you, and you'll be there for me

G D A G
Forever it's you, forever in me, ever the same.

Bridge

Bm A D A Bm
You may need me there to carry all your weight

G A Bm
But you're no burden, I assure.

G A Bm A Bm
You tide me over, with a warmth I'll not forget

G A D
But I can only give you love.

Chorus 3

D A Bm G
Fall on me, tell me everything you want me to be

G D A D
Forever with you, forever in me, ever the same.

D A Bm G
Call on me, I'll be there for you, and you'll be there for me

G D A G
Forever it's you, forever in me, ever the same.

G D A D
Forever with you, forever in me, ever the same.

When my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~

Thanks, Bonzo!

I worked on the bridge some more and re-pasted the song with the edited bridge above. I like this bridge a lot better than what I had before.

DO you have a strumming pattern that seems to work for you?

aaron,

One general strum pattern that works for this song is: D D/U U/D/U

(translate that to: Down, Down/Up, Up/Down/Up)

Beyond that, I just feel my way through the strumming.

I'm really enjoying this one. I was wondering if you play any kind of intro on this before you start the lyrics?

Also, in case anyone besides me has trouble with the D D/U U/D/U strum pattern (I can strum it as long as someone else sings, but I can NOT sing along with this pattern for some reason) I've been using a simple D/D/DU/D pattern, adjusting as necessary, and it seems to fit the song well.

Ok when you post a strum pattern...what do the slashes indicate?

I use the slashes to indicate the counts of the measure.

1/2/3&/4
D/D/DU/D

It doesn't look like that's the case in Margaret's example, but that's how I use them. Here's how I would normally indicate the strum that she uses:

1/2&/3&/4&
D/DU/_U/DU

You don't strum on the 3 count in that one. The up strum falls on the "and", the second half of the beat.
