"All the world's indeed a stage, and we are mearly players, performers and portrayers, each another's audience, outside the guilded cage" - now was that Rush or Shakesphere?

I just use a dduud pattern, and change the chords as needed. I also use different chords though - D, Am, C, Em for the verses and C, Em, D for the chorus. Also, there is that little chord that he strums at the beginning - I found somewhere one that works well:

e|-5
b|-0
g|-5
d|-0
a|-5
e|--

He throws that in there at the end of some of the verse lines, and also I think at the end of the chorus. Good luck :)

That is a good lesson and Justin does a good job running through the song, but I disagree with his version of opening chord strums. I've seen a bunch videos of the acoustic version of this song and Dave is definitely playing a straight D chord and just lifting his pointer finger on and off the G string (going from A - G) to create that pattern/sound. The chord shape Falcon1 tabbed (and Justin shows) is used in the electric version and sounds fine acoustic, but it is not the way I've seen Dave play it.

All that said, in the end, if it sounds good to you, go with it!

But the strumming pattern is good, which was what the OP asked. The comments for that video are full of debate about that chord.
