Since today is Paul's 64th birthday, it seems only fitting to submit one of his songs. With its haunting melody and horn section, this is one of my favorites of Paul's (from the Revolver period). If you want to play with the recording, your guitar must be tuned down a half-step.

This song has a prominent descending baseline which adds to its charm. To play it in this arrangement, however, you must play bar F and Bb chords. The beginner can forget the descending baseline and and play a mini-bar F chord and a simplied Bb (xx3331 or even xxx331) empasizing the first strum in lieu of the bass note. But I highly recommend learning the bar/descending baseline version. Most books show the fingering for the bar Bb as using the middle, ring and pinky to make the "A-form" of the Bb. For some reason I find it easier to bar the 1st fret with the index and to use my pinky to provide a 2nd mini-bar of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings of the 3rd fret. (If you can't do this without barring the 1st string, simply mute it.)

Nice work, Shug - particularly like the descending bassline! I must confess, I never heard this song before Emmylou Harris had a hit with it about 1976....Americans might be surprised to learn it was her only UK hit!

Tried this last night - sounds fine to me!

Spot on! I'm really liking this one. Reminds me of the four track I used to listen to this on, an old Muntz. Oh yeah remember the Ba Ba Bas on this one ,or maybe that was the french horn :oops:

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. "Four track and Muntz". Boy, does that bring back memories!! And yes, this is one American that is shocked that this was Emmylou's only hit in the UK! Frankly, I don't even think of this song when I think of the stuff she's done . . . go figure! (By the way, this song is forever linked in my mind with "Here, There & Everywhere" since they were on the same Revolver album and I used to play them over and over until I wore out the vinyl!!)
