Here's another song from the Beatles' Rubber Soul period. Some tabs show different chords with the capo on the 8th fret, but I find playing up that far on the neck, and the chords concerned, to be a bit more difficult for the beginning guitarist. Hopefully, you will find this just as satisfying.

Capo: 3rd fret to play with recording

Strum Pattern:

Lot's of options here. I use several variations throughout the song. I'll pull out sections of the song to give some examples:

" . . . anybody goin' to listen . . ." D UDU (Using a little bit of a shuffle rhythm);

" . . . to my stoo-ry . . . ." D DU D D (downstroke on each syllable);

" . . . all about the girl who . . . " D UDU (Back to the shuffle rhythm)

" . . . makes you sor-ry . . ." D DU D D (downstroke on each syllable again);

" . . . day . . ." D D D D (straight downstrokes this time);

". . . Oh, Girl . . . " DUDU (for each chord in the C-Em-Dm-G7 progression);

" . . . think of all the times . . ." D UDU (back to the basic shuffle rhythm)

and so on;

oh yeah on " . . . and she promises . . ." A quick and emphatic DUD stroke on the word "promises" is a nice change of pace for emphasis; Same goes later on for the E7 that occurs on ". . .that a [man]"

". . . She's the kind of girl . . . you feel a . . ." DUDUDUDU;

" . . . fool . . ." D D UDU then rapidly strum A Chord DUDDUDD D

This isn't nearly as hard as I probably made it sound. Just listen to the CD recording. Like I said, there are several variations that can be used.

Finally, on picking the notes in the outro, you may find it helpful to mini-bar the 1st fret of e&B strings with the index finger and the 3rd fret with the ring finger. (Sounds best on a 12-string)

Tried this, works fine - nice one Shug! Possibly the first Beatles song on here for at least 18 months that wasn't done by Dogsbody or Rodders......where you been, lads?

Thanks again.....

First class job Shug, just had a quick run through this one and it sounds great. I particularly like the double stop solo.

Thanks,

Rod.

Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!

Good one shug, must have a go at this.

See Vic we are still about, I must post another for you soon. Trouble is DIY is currently getting in the way of all things guitar related.

Shug, Having read the biography "John" recently by Cynthia Lennon and looking at these song lyrics I could believe this song is about her .

Good job Shug. Hey this isnt a complaint as much as its a "Hey you might wanna do this" type of suggestion. I dont know about the others but I usually print out what is in the "code" box. You might want to put in that part that it is capo 3 or not.... up to you.

Thanks for the song

Good point Geoo . . . I've made an edit to include the capo reference in the code. I've had a devil of a time posting my first two songs due to the fact my computer skills are no better than my guitar skills ! :wink: Thanks to responses from Greybeard and Electrablue to my posting question/suggestion on another forum, I hope to have a better layout that is more printer-friendly on future song posts. Thanks for the comment.
