A nice easy rock song with a cool little driving beat. Three chords in the form of a simple E-A-D-E progression.
HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS
BOB SEGER
[INTRO]
[E] [A] [D] [E]

[VERSE 1]
[E]She stood there, bright as the sun, on that [A]cal-i-for-nia coast.
[D]He was a mid-west-ern boy on his [E]own.
[E]She looked at him with those soft eyes, so [A]in-no-cent_ and blue.
[D]He saw that face and he lost all con[E]trol.

[E] [A] [D] [E]

[E]She took his hand and she led him a[A]long that gold-en beach.
[D]They watched the waves tum-ble o-ver the [E]sand.
[E]They drove for miles and miles_ up those [A]twist-ing turn-ing roads.
[D]High-er and high-er and high-er they [E]climbed.

[CHORUS]
And those Hol[E]ly-wood nights
in those hol[A]lywood hills:
she was[D]looking so right,
in her dia[E]monds and frills.

[E]Oh, those big__ cit-y nights
in those high__[A]roll-ing hills_
a[D]bove all the lights,
she had all__[E] of her skills.

[E] [A] [D] [E]

[VERSE 2]
[E]He'd head-ed west 'cause he felt that a [A]change would do him good.
[D]See some old friends, good for the [E]soul.
[E]She had been born with a face that would [A]let her get her way.
[D]He knew right then he was to far from [E]home.

[E] [A] [D] [E]

[E]Night after night and day after [A]day it went on and on.
[D]Then came that morn-ing he woke up a[E]lone.
[E]He spent all night staring down at the [A]lights of L.A.,
[D]Wondering if he could ever go [E]home.

[CHORUS 2]
And those Hol[E]ly-wood nights
in those hol[A]ly-wood hills:
it was l[D]ooking so right
it was giv[E]ing him chills.

Oh, those big[E] cit-y nights_
in those high[A] roll-ing hills_
a[D]bove all the lights
with a pas[E]sion that kills.

[E] [A] [D] [E]
[E] [A] [D] [E]

"I wonder if a composer ever intentionally composed a piece that was physically impossible to play and stuck it away to be found years later after his death, knowing it would forever drive perfectionist musicians crazy." - George Carlin
