In My Life - Beatles.

One of my favourite Beatles ballads...this is my own slightly simplified pub
version, I've added a very simplified solo to flesh it out a little....
Funny how John is always thought of as the rocker and Paul as the balladeer,
yet JL wrote many fine ballads (In My Life, Norwegian Wood, Girl...) and Paul
wrote some great rockers...I'm Down, Helter Skelter, etc..)

Intro....

E -------------|-------------------|
B ---1-------0-|---1-------0-0---0-|
G ---------0---|---------0-----2---|
D -2---2h3-----|-2---2h3-----------|
A -3-----------|-3-----------------|
E -----------3-|-----------3-------|

E -------------|-----------3-|
B ---1-------0-|---1-------0-|
G ---------0---|---------0-0-|
D -2---2h3-----|-2---2h3---0-|
A -3-----------|-3---------2-|
E -----------3-|-----------3-|

(G)There are (C)places (G)I re(Am)member,
All my (F)li-(Fm)ife though (C)some have changed,
Some forever, (g)not for (A)better,
Some have (F)go-(Fm)one and (C)some remain,

All these (Am)places have their (Bb)moments,
With (F)lovers and (Fm)friends I (C)still can recall,
Some are (Am)dead and some are (D7)living,
In (F)my (Fm)life, I've (C)loved them all.

(Here, repeat the first part of the intro...up to where the E and B strings are
plucked simultaneously...twice....

But of (C)all these (G)friends and (Am)lovers,
There is (F)no- (Fm)one com(C)pares with you,
And these memories (G)lose their (Am)meaning,
When I (F)think of (Fm)love as (C)something new,

Though I Am)know I'll never ever lose (Bb)affection,
For (F)people and (Fm)things that (C)went before,
I (Am)know I'll often stop and think a(D7)bout them,
In (F)my (Fm)life, I've (C)loved them all....

(Solo....simple, but effective...)

C---------G-----Am--------E-----F-------Fm------C

E -0-----0---3---3-----------0---0-----1---1---1-----|
B ---1h3---1---3---1-----1-----0---1-----1-------1-1-|
G -------------------2h4---2----------2------1-----0-|
D ---------------------------------------------------|
A -3---------2-----0-------------------------------3-|
E ---------------------------0-----1-------1---------|

Though I Am)know I'll never ever lose (Bb)affection,
For (F)people and (Fm)things that (C)went before,
I (Am)know I'll often stop and think a(D7)bout them,
In (F)my (Fm)life, I've (C)loved you more.....

Outro
E -------------|-------------------0-|
B ---1-------0-|---1-------0-0---0-1-|
G ---------0---|---------0-----2---0-|
D -2---2h3-----|-2---2h3---2-------2-|
A -3-----------|-3-----------------3-|
E -----------3-|-----------3-------3-|

A few notes....

1 - The intro is simply C and G chords, picked in the appropriate places..
2 - You can either hold the G chord at the very end of the intro, or play it 5
times...dudud....
3 - I use a simple but rhythmic DUD DUD strumming pattern for both verses
and choruses...
4 - At the end of the solo, either hold the C chord and pluck it as shown 3
times, or pluck it the first time as shown then put the full C chord on and
play two further downstrokes...

Any questions, feel free to ask...any mistakes I may have made with lyrics
would probably be due to the fact I'm in Texas without a copy of the recording
to listen to...I'm practising this like crazy for the next open mic (next
momday, hopefully...) and I thought if I tabbed it out, I'd get it clearer in
my head....

Anyway...hope you like this version...it isn't the original version, but it's
recognisably close...I HOPE!!!

Vic.

I heard that Paul may have originated the melody, but the lyrics are definitely John.

It dont really matter which one of them penned it. It will always be one of my most loved Beatles songs.

Thank you Vic for a great job

(I'm fingering the intro and playing chords by the barre by the way)

Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!

Vic,

a brilliant job mate as always!!!

Vic and Rodders,

I've always loved this song too but what is it with you guys and barre chords! I'll get a phobia over them soon.

Please be patient, I'll get there, I will honest!

God my backside hurts!! Must put Bert Weedon's "Play guitar in a week" down my trousers. Ah maybe thats where I've been going wrong!

I'll go back in my shell now! Coo! its dark in here!

LOL

Chris

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)

LMAO Chris.....

There's only two barres in this - the F and the Bb....so might be a good place for you to start....
