Classic Rock- Misty Mountain Hop- Led Zepplin
Here is a truly easy song to learn, but it still sounds great.
Chords used in this song
---E--------A------G-----D--------G------A------D------C----
e--------------------------2--------3----------------------------
b--------------------------3--------3----------------------------
g--------------------------2--------0------6------7------5------
d--2----------------------0--------0------5------7------5------
a--X--------------------------------X-----------------------------
e--0--------5------3---------------3------------------------------
Intro only
e-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
b-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
g----------------------------------------------------------------------------- X 4
d----------------------2---------2----------------------2------------2-------
a------------------------------------------------------------------------------
e---0-----/5-----3---------0------------/5-------3------------0-------------
During the intro only, the A note is a dotted quarter-note. The G is
a quarter note, all the others are eighth notes.
Riff 1- Main riff used throughout song
e------------------------------------------------------------------------------
b-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
g-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
d------------------------------2------------------------------------2---------
a------------------------------------------------------------------------------
e---0-----/5-----3------0---------0-----------/5------3-----0--------0----
Here, the A note at the 5th fret is a quarter note. Gives a totally
different feel. Notice also that the octave E is reversed.
Just repeat the Main Riff over and over. Doesn't get much easier than this.
When playing the E chord, let the E note on the D string ring, you want
to get a hypnotic drone sound.
I find it easiest to play the notes on the 6th string with my middle
finger, and the E on the D string with my index, but do what is most
comfortable for you.
Riff 2- OK, here is what Jimmy Page is playing over the vocals. It is played
precisely in time to the vocals phrasing. Watch for the subtle change.
e---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
b----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
g---6---7---5---6---7---5---6---7---5---6---7---5---6-6---7---5---6-----
d---5---7---5---5---7---5---5---7---5---5---7---5---5-5---7---5---5-----
a----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
e----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hold that first chord with your index and middle fingers. Play the next
chord with a little mini-barre with your ring finger, and the third chord with a
mini-barre with your index finger. Your hand never has to move.
Everything is quarter notes except those two eighth notes.
Other than this, you just play the D and G Major Chords. The G chord
is technically a G5 chord.
Misty Mountain Hop
Intro- Riff 1
(Riff 2)Walkin' in the park just the other day, baby, (Riff 1)
What do you, what do you think I saw?
(Riff 2)Crowds of people sittin' on the grass with flowers in their hair said, (Riff 1)
Hey, boy, do you wanna score? And you know how it is;
(D)I really don't (G)know what (Riff 1)time it was, woh, oh,
(D)So I asked them if (G)I could stay awhile. (Riff 1)
(Riff 2)I didn't notice but it had got very dark and I was really, (Riff1)Really out of my mind.
(Riff 2)Just then a policeman stepped up to me and asked us said,
(Riff 1)Please, hey, would we care to all get in line,
Get in line.Well you know,
(D)They asked us to (G)stay for tea and have some fun, (Riff 1)
Oh, oh, (D)he said that his (G)friends would all drop by, (Riff 1)ooh.
(Riff 2)Why don't you take a good look at yourself and describe what you see,
(Riff 1)And baby, baby, baby, do you like it?
(Riff 2)There you sit, sitting spare like a book on a shelf rustin' (Riff 1)
Ah, not trying to fight it.
(D)You really don't (G)care if they're coming, (Riff 1)oh, oh,
(D)I know that it's (G)all a state of mind, (Riff 1)ooh.
Solo
(Riff 2)If you go down in the streets today, baby, you better, (Riff 1)
You better open your eyes.
(Riff 2)Folk down there really don't care, really don't care,
Don't care, really (Riff 1)don't, Which, which way the pressure lies,
So I've decided what I'm gonna do now.
(D)So I'm packing my (G)bags for the misty mountains (Riff 1)
Where the spirits go now,
(D)Over the (G)hills where the spirits (Riff 1)fly, ooh,
I really don't know, I really don't know
Riff 1 and out

Easy when you know how!!!! - I just had a quick go at this and it all seems pretty straightforward - have to dig out a copy of LZ4 and try it as a play-along.
Nice one Wes!!!

My explanations make an easy song sound hard. I keep going back
making little edits. If you listen to the recording, it will be easy.
There are quite a few other guitars on this song, but these are the
basic riffs.

Tried this last night, sounded great. Awesome job Wes! Thanks!
Well I got this guitar and I'm tryin' to learn how to make it talk.

Thanks Wes! :D
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- "WOW--What a Ride!"
When playing the E chord, let the E note on the D string ring, you want
to get a hypnotic drone sound.
When do you play the E chord? I see E notes in the Intro and Riff 1, but no chords. Do you just mean to let the Es on the d string ring?
Also, what time signature is this song in? I'm having trouble counting out the beats. I come up long in the Intro and short in Riff 1. Any advice would be appreciated.
