Thought it was about time we had another Beatles song so I'm gonna confuse you all with this one
Now so as no to clutter up the chord sequence shown below
I am giving this info here.
what I am about to tell you is just how I like to play it
but it does mean you have to play using barre chords and they are asE x79997
C#m x46654
B 799877
A 577655
Eb x68886
Bb x13331
A* x02220
B* x24442
Now what I tend to do is after playing the initial E on the 7th fret
I then walk into the C#m by playing an Eb just one quick strum
and then from the C#m to the A* I do the same thing by playing a B just
one strum, then from the A* to the B that comes at the end of Garden in the shade
play a Bb between them.
Then to drag you all way back to the E for the next line throw in a C#m on the
way back up
Now I know that all sounds so complicated but it is quite simple
I will try and show you how by slashes. and see if that helps
So here goes
E Eb C#m B A* Bb B
////////// / ////////// / ////////// / /
B C#m E
//// / /this E is the start of line 2
Hopefully you can now see where I'm coming from.
If not let me know how better I can explain it.
Ah hec heres a sound byte I just rushed of should explain everything
Anyway here is the song E C#m
I'd like to be under the sea
A B
In an Octopus's Garden in the shade.
E C#m
He'd let us in knows where we've been,
A B
In his Octopus's Garden in the shade.
C#m
I'd ask my friends to come and see
A B
An Octopus's Garden with me.
E C#m
I'd like to be under the sea
A B E
In an Octopus's Garden in the shade.
E C#m
We would be warm below the storm
A B
In our little hideaway beneath the waves.
E C#m
Resting our head on the sea bed
A B
In an Octopus's Garden near a cave.
C#m
We would sing and dance around
A B
Because we know we can't be found.
E C#m
I'd like to be under the sea
A B E
In an Octopus's Garden in the shade.
E C#m
We would shout and swim about
A B
The coral that lies beneath the waves.
E C#m
Oh, what joy for every girl and boy
A B
Knowing they're happy and they're safe.
C#m
We would be so happy, you and me.
A B
No one there to tell us what to do.
E C#m
I'd like to be under the sea
A B C#m
In an Octopus's Garden with you,
A B C#m
In an Octopus's Garden with you,
A B E B E
In an Octopus's Garden with you,
It actually helps if you emphasise the first strum of each of the chords
shown in the lyrics and let it sound for at least 2 beats before playng

Nice piece Rodders,
I've got to have a go at it after all the encouragement from you and Vic.
Cheers,
Chris
The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)
Rodders,
I'm getting the shapes, still killing strings, fingers getting stiff! Oh well no gain without pain!
Cheers

As you rightly say no pain no gain, but once you get them you'll be so pleased that you persivered.
Does the sound byte help with the chord structuring info?

Got a suggestion for anyone who's still uncomfortable with barre chords..
instead of the four main chords,
E C#m A and B,
try.substituting
C Am F and G respectively.
Then if you haven't already got one, go out and get a capo...put it on the 4th fret and hey presto, you're back to the original key....
THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU DOGSBODY....!!!! (I swear we'll have him playing barres by Xmas Rodders!!!!)
:D :D :D
Vic

Oh the pain, the pain!
You rotten swines, somehow I knew I'd be deaded!
Heres a little ditty for you:
I got something here
that might cause me pain
Its a barre chording finger
that I treat with disdain
I'm gonna put it down
and leave it flat
(and the finger says)
I told you before I can't do that.
(with apologies to John Lennon)
LOL
