Hello I've been listening to Red Hot chili peppers lately only to find out that several of their slow songs are quite easy to play: the easiest is by far “Otherside”, a big hit from the “Californication” album...also “Scar Tissue” is easy (only two chords) but that's would be the subject of another post.

First of all a disclaimer: I took the chords from the following site http://guitar.about.com/od/freebeginnerlessons/ , in their easy songs section.

So move on:

Chords: just four open chords very easy to play (Am, Em, G, C) plus the F. By the way I noticed that almost Red hot chili peppers ballads are based upon F chord...the the chords are in most cases the biggest difficulty to play their slow numbers.

Chord changes: very easy, the chords always change each measure or every two measure (see the numbers in the brackets) the pattern is the following one

First part of the Verse:
Am (1), Em (1) play 3 times
G (1) Am (1) play twice

Second part of the verse:
Am (1), Em (1) play 3 times
G (1) Am (1) play twice
G (2), Am (2)

Chorus: Am (1), F(1), C(1), G(1) play 3 times

Bridge: Em (2), G (2) play twice

Strumming pattern: the song works well with a d/du/udu pattern or a simpler d/du/u/d, for a better result you could also play the following one:

1st measure: d/du/du/du
2nd measure: d/du/u/du

Also a simple du for each beat could work taking care to accent all the downstrums. So as our master David Hodge would say the pattern is up to you

Ok, enough talking here it is and please let me know any mistake

Matteo

just noticed how much easier will be if you play Am with barre af 5th fret, C at 8th one, G at 3rd one....

Another good reason to learn barre chords

Cheers

Matteo

This was one of my first few songs.

The lead riff is easy to play and it's a good one for playing along to the song.

"Today is what it means to be young..."

(Radiohead, RHCP, Jimi Hendrix - the big 3)
