NOTE: Updated arrangement of original post - I made it a lot easier to play and I think it sounds just as good.

I arranged this version pretty much from scratch.

Bob Marley

I am actually pretty happy with this... I need to take a step back for a bit and look at it again in a few days with a fresh perspective... any comments greatly appreciated.

Good to see you've got a Guitar Pro file as I can use that to hear what its supposed to sound like. I really need the notation :)

...search YouTube for a vid of Bob Marley singing it (I can't get YouTube at work... otherwise, I would find you a link).

I was able to go through it once today and here is what I've got (it's just the page, not the repeat) Just used my webcam for the audio here, so there is quite a bit of noise.

Thanks a ton for doing that... you played it well and it sounds pretty much like I was hoping it to. It is hard to judge totally off my own playing, as I have a preset idea on how the timing, etc should sound. Some day I may tackle it again as the verses do sound different and should be reflected better... the repeat works, but is definitely not true to the words being sung.

I am pretty happy with that arrangement - the first one I really am happy with that I have done.

Thanks! You should be happy you did a great job! I'll re-do it once I get a few things out of the way and include the repeat.

Great job, lue42!
Thanks as well for the GP file. That's a big help.
I'm not much as a fingerpicker but I'm looking forward to tackling this one.

What exactly do you mean by a Grace Note and a Ghost Note?

Thanks.

A grace note is a note that is very short in duration, right before the actual note.

A ghost note is a note that is not played with as much force as the others, for instance if you are playing 2xxx32 and the high e is parentheses then you would not emphasize or play with as much force that particular note or string.

The way I play that at the beginning is basically to treat them like very quick hammer-ons. It sounds right to me.

Tabbed out, they might look like

0h2
2h3

I thought ghost notes were the same as pre-bends...

You aren't bending anything though.

Thats true, but I expect its got a different term then surely?

What I think you are describing is something like the tab below:

--------------
-2-/-(4)------
-0----0-------

You'd pick both notes and slide upto the fourth fret but only pick the open string again. Thats how I've been playing those notes in parenthesis. Am I doing it wrong?!

That's one instance yes. But if you are picking strings that don't have a slide pr bend or tie and they are in parentheses you don't play those notes as forcefull.
