[codeREM Everybody Hurts

Here is a great fingerpick song that I've been learning, a good song to play along to on the CD
Slightly emphasis the bass notes.
Timing – Try counting Bass,1 2,1 2 3. Listen to the song it's easy to follow.

D G
E||--------3------|--------3------|--------3------|--------3------|
B||------2---2----|------2---2----|------0---0----|------0---0----|
G||----3-------3--|----3-------3--|----0-------0--|----0-------0--| X 5
D||-0-------------|-0-------------|---------------|---------------|
A||---------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
E||---------------|---------------|-3-------------|-3-------------|

D G
E||--------3------|--------3------|--------3------|---------------|
B||------2---2----|------2---2----|------0---0----|-----0------0--|
G||----3-------3--|----3-------3--|----0-------0--|---0-----0-----| X 1
D||-0-------------|-0-------------|---------------|---------------|
A||---------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
E||---------------|---------------|-3-------------|-3------2------|

Em A
E||--------0------|--------0------|--------0------|-------0-------|
B||------0---0----|------0---0----|------2---2----|-----2---2-----|
G||----0-------0--|----0-------0--|----2-------2--|---2-------2---| X 2
D||---------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
A||---------------|---------------|-0-------------|-0-------------|
E||-0-------------|-0-------------|---------------|---------------|

Em A
E||--------0------|--------0------|--------0------|---------------|
B||------0---0----|------0---0----|------2---2----|---------------|
G||----0-------0--|----0-------0--|----2-------2--|---------------| X 1
D||---------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
A||---------------|---------------|-0-------------|-0-------------|
E||-0-------------|-0-------------|---------------|---------------|

Repeat all through again but finish on last A chord like this

A
E||--------0------|---------------|
B||------2---2----|---------------|
G||----2-------2--|---------------| X 1
D||---------------|---------------|
A||-0-------------|--0--0-0-------|
E||---------------|----------0-1--|

Then

F# Bm
E||--------2------|--------2------|--------2------|--------2------|
B||------2---2----|------2---2----|------3---3----|------3---3----|
G||----3-------3--|----3-------3--|----4-------4--|----4-------4--| X 3
D||---------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
A||---------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
E||-2-------------|--2------------|-2-------------|-2-------------|

Then

C G
E||--------0------|--------0------|--------3------|--------0------|
B||------1---1----|------1---1----|------0---0----|------0---0----|
G||----0-------0--|----0-------0--|----0-------0--|----0-------0--| X 1
D||---------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
A||-3-------------|-3-------------|---------------|---------------|
E||---------------|---------------|-3-------------|-3-------------|

Then

C Am

E||---------------|--------0------|---------------|---------------|
B||------1-----1--|------1---1----|---------------|---------------|
G||----0-----0----|----2-------2--|---------------|---------------|
D||---------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|
A||-3------2------|-0-------------|-0-------------|---------------|
E||---------------|---------------|---------------|---------------|

Repeat on D and G Chords/ E and A to finish.

Hope you enjoy.

This is very nice stan ton. Is there any chance you could put the lyrics up in relation to the chord changes?

Rod. :wink:

Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!

Hi mate

I agree with you it's a nice song to start fingerpicking. I play it like you except for the bridge part that, if I remembre correctly, it is strummed.

I add a couple of things which may be helpful:

a) time signature: it is in 6/8 like House of the rising sun for the ones which are familiar to David Hodge lesson, so as suggested just count 1,2,3 quickly. If you tap your foot remember that you need three taps to complete the measure

b) chord changes: every two measures except for the end of the bridge where the C to Am change is after one measure

c) fingerpicking pattern: all notes have the same lenght (1/8 each) and could be picked with this pattern T,I,M,A,M,I

Really fingerpicking could not be much easier than with this song

Cheers

Matteo

I play this song holding the 3rd fret b string(D) on the G chord aswell, so i hold the d with 1,2 and 3 and when i switch to G 2 goes to low string 3rd fret , 3 stays and 4 lands on 6th string 3rd fret (G),so 3 stays where its is. :D

I play this song picking B-1-2-3-2-1 for most of it. The chords are mostly D, G eminor, and E, but there's an F# a C a Bminor and a Aminor in the chorus.

intro: D, D, G, G, D, D, G, G

when your day is long = D (two measures)
and the = G (two measures)
Night, the night is yours = D (two measures)
alone = G (two measures)

and you're sure you had - D
enough of this = G
Life hang on = G
after the words hang on go back to G and pick B-1-2 then switch to G/F# and pick B-1-2-3

don't let yourself - eminor
go = A for one measure, then A again for B-1-2-3. then on the sixth string play the G, F# and go to eminor

cause everybody = eminor
cries = A for one measure, then A again for B-1-2-3, then on the sixth string again play the G, F3 and go to eminor

and everybody = eminor
hurts = A for two measurres
sometimes D for two measures, G for one measure
sometimes everyting is = G for one measure
wrong = D for two measures
Now it's time to sing = G for two measures
along = D for one measure

then the next verse starts

When your day is night hold on hold on if you feel like letting go
If you think you've had too much on this life hang on
cause everybody hurts take comfort in your cries
everybody hurts

For the chorus:

Don't worry = F# for two measures
Hang on = Bminor for two measures
Hold = F# for two measures
on = Bminor for two measures

dont worry = F# for two measures
Hang on - Bminor for two measures
If you feel like you're = C for two measures
alone = G for two measures
no no = C for one measure
no your not = C play B-1-2, then C/B play B-1-2-3

alone = a minor for two measures

the the next verse

If your on your own in this life
days and night are long
when you think youve had too much of this life hang on
well everybody hurts sometimes, everybody cries
everybody hurts sometimes everybody hurts sometimes

so hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on
hold on hold on everybody hurts

The last part (hold on) the change is on the word On.
you should end with two measures of G on the word sometimes so hold, then change to a D on the word On, the next on is G, etc.

outro: D, D, G, G, D, D, G, G

I hope this isn't too confusing. It may be a little different fro what was posted above.
