Would love to find the tab for this song "Dying Cub Fans last Request" by Steve Goodman, as I'm a cub fan and this was the B side of the 45 with "Go Cubs Go" on the front, which would also be a nice find.

Thanks for any help, I can't see this being a hard song to play.

Haha I just recently went looking for this tab too. As a lifetime Cub fan that sees another disappointing season coming I felt the need to learn this song. I looked everywhere on the internet and finally found this. I dont know if its right, because I havent been playing long, but its all Ive found.

DYING CUB FAN'S LAST REQUEST
(Steve Goodman)
Chords by Gaz : Corrections welcome

Oh, and I think the C/A may be a straight A7.

Typical I-VI-II-V blues turnaround, rather than a I-vi-II-V... YMMV

EADGBe
C x32010
C7 x32310
F x33211
C/A x02010
D7 xx0212
G7 320001
F#o is xxx421x <-- there is an extra x there, and i dont know which one was added by mistake, maybe someone can help us?
(i.e. its an F with the bass not raised a semitone)

C G7 C
By the shores of old Lake Michigan
F F#o C
Where the hawk wind blows so cold
F F#o C C/A
An old Cub fan lay dying
D7 G7
In his midnight hour that tolled
[as above]
'Round his bed, his friends had all gathered
They knew his time was short
And on his head the put this bright blue cap
From his all-time favorite sport
He told them "it's late and its getting dark in here"
And I know its time to go
But before I leave the line-up
There's just one thing I'd like to know

(Chorus, sung)
C C7
Do they still play the blues in Chicago
F C
When baseball season rolls around
F
When the snow melts away,
C
Do the Cubbies still play
D7 G7
In their ivy covered burial ground?
C C7
When I was a boy they were my pride and joy
F C
But now they only bring fatigue
F
To the home of the brave
C
The land of the free
D7 G7 C
And the doormat of the National League

If you figure out a strumming pattern that sounds good please share :)

Regards,
Chris

It took me forever to find the chords for "dying cubs fans last request" im sure with enough searching I can find "go cubs go"
i'll let you know if i do. Apparently Steve Goodman is not very popular outside of Chicago because there are very few of his songs available in guitar tab.

For those who might not be familiar with Steve Goodman, legend has it that his ashes are buried beneath home plate at Wrigley Field (and he also wrote a little ditty entitled City of New Orleans, amde famous by Arlo Guthrie).

Blame it on the lies that killed us, blame it on the truth that ran us down.

I took "Centerfield" and made it a Cardinal song last fall

E doesn't = MC2, E = Fb

Music "Theory"? "It's not just a theory, it's the way it is!"

Just found this on Youtube

It's Steve Goodman playing this song in the Wrigley Field Bleachers and you can see him fingering chords and strumming perfectly.
