Here is a beautiful song written by George Harrison. I am surprised it was not already posted here, but I did a search and did not find it.

Do not let the numerous chords intimidate you, they are all pretty standard and easy to play. The Am with a major 7th tone is a little unusual (Am-M7). Don't know if I showed the chord name properly.

Here are the chords used in this song.

C CM7 C7 F D D7 G G7

e---0----0----0----1i---2m---2r---3p---1i---
b---1i---0----1i---1i---3r---1i---0----0----
g---0----0----3p---2m---2i---2m---0----0----
d---2m---2m---2m---3r---0----0----0----0----
a---3r---3r---3r------------------2m---2m---
e---------------------------------3r---3r---

Am Am-M7 Am7 Eb A C#m F#m F#m7

e---0----0----0----3i---0----4i---2i---2i---
b---1i---1m---1i---4m---2r---5m---2i---2i---
g---2r---1i---0----3i---2m---6p---2i---2i---
d---2m---2r---2m---5r---2i---6r---4r---2i---
a---0----0----0---------0-------------------
e-------------------------------------------

On the original recording George played the intro with single notes on an electric. But I saw him play this song on acoustic solo, and this is how he did it. Pretty easy.

Intro

F Eb G C-verse starts here

e---5i---8p---5i-----6i----7m-------0-----
b---6m---6m---6m-----8r----8r-------1-----
g---5i---------------8m----7i-------0-----
d-----------------------------------2-----
a-----------------------------------3-----
e-----------------------------------------

This intro is played before every verse. You start singing the verse on the C chord.

There are also two runs in this song during the bridge. The first is an A chord with a descending bass run.

A* with descending bass run

e-------------------------------
b---2i--------------------------
g---2i--------------------------
d---2i--------------------------
a---0---------------------------
e--------4r---3m---2i---1i---0--

Then right after that a C chord with a descending bass run.

C* with descending bass line

e---0---------------------------
b---1---------------------------
g---0---------------------------
d---2------------------------0--
a---3----2m---0-----------------
e------------------3r---0-------

When I show the lyrics/chords, I will show these two runs as A* and C*

One last, but simple thing, when switching from the F to D chords in the verses, hit an E note like this, or you can hit the open bass E string, sounds great.

F E D

e---1-----------2----
b---1-----------3----
g---2-----------2----
d---3-----2-----0----
a--------------------
e--------------------

That's it, here's the lyrics.

Something- The Beatles

Intro (shown above)

(C)Something in the way she (CM7)moves
(C7)Attracts me like no other (F)lover (F)(E)
(D)Something in the (D7)way she (G)woos me(G7)

I (Am)don't want to leave her (Am-M7)now
You (Am7)know I believe her (D7)now

Play intro

(C)Somewhere in her smile she (CM7)knows
(C7)That I don't need no other (F)lover (F)(E)
(D)Something in her (D7)style that (G)shows me(G7)

(Am)Don't want to leave her (Am-M7)now
You (Am7)know I believe her (D7)now

Play intro but go to A major chord instead of C at end

(A)You're asking (C#m)me will my love (F#m)grow(F#m7)
I don't (D)know, (G)I don't (A*)know ..... A with descending bass run
(A)You stick a(C#m)round now it may (F#m)show(F#m7)
I don't (D)know, (G)I don't (C*)know ..... C with descending bass run

Guitar solo- Play one verse and chorus

Play intro

(C)Something in the way she (CM7)knows
(C7)And all I have to do is (F)think of her (F)(E)
(D)Something in the (D7)things she (G)shows me(G7)

(Am)Don't want to leave her (Am-M7)now
You (Am7)know I believe her (D7)now

Play intro except end on A major chord instead of C

Play intro end on C Major chord

That's it, hope you enjoy it.

Another classic - Something and Rocky Raccoon on the same day, but I still think.....no, I'm not going off on one about the White Album again!

Wes, I've seen lots of tabs for this, and by combining the best of them, I managed to come up with something very similar - the chord you play as Am-M7, I've always played as G#aug.....

E A D G B E
0 3 2 1 1 0

Sounds OK to me anyway.....

Thanks for another good one,

:D :D :D

Vic

That chord sounds great and is a little easier to play. Actually, it is the very same chord except you have the C on the bass and I have the A. Same exact notes though.

I looked up the name on a chord finder, it was Caug5, Eaug5, or Abaug5. So I would go with Caug5 for this song being in C.

Thanks.

Great post! This is why am here . . . great song, great "arrangement". I particularly appreciate the tips and suggested chord fingerings. BTW, how many women can say they had two classic rock/pop songs written about her by two icons? (Pattie Boyd Harrison Clapton - "Something" & "Layla")

This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written. George was such a great artist. Frank sinatra said this was his favorite song

HOLA!!

I had a different version of this song but couldn´t play it very well because of some tricky chords, came across this version and was able to play it 8) So thanks very much (because I absoulutely love this song!!!).

One thing is I´m really missing the solo part when I play it....... Could you not give us the tab for the solo part for this version?? I´m sure I and many other beginners would be eternally gratefull!!!

Muchas gracias,
Zeppelin :-)

The solo really isn't that hard to work out....took me about a day to get it something like....I can't tab it yet, can't play guitar, but if no-one volunteers, I'll do it in a couple of weeks or so....

BTW, where Wes plays an E note in between the F and D chords, you could try F/Fmaj7/D.....then you're playing a full chord instead of just a bass note....

Hi all,
I saw saw Vic was going to post the guitar solo here but obviously he has had other things om his mind lately so I am willing to put my reputation :? on the line here.
I've tried to tab the way I play the lead, not just the guitar solo. As we usually have two guitars and a keyboard player in the band I don't do chords ( chores? ) more than in the bridge part of this song.
Ok, enough already, here it is:

Intro:

F Eb G C
|-------------------------------------|---------------------|
|--10------12pbr--10--11~-----12~-----|--13~----------------|
|-------------------------------------|---------------------|
|-------------------------------------|---------------------|
|-------------------------------------|---------------------|
|-------------------------------------|---------------------|

As you can see I play the electric singelnote version of the intro. The verse starts in the second bar above and I just continue playing as follows:
Cmaj7 C7 F
|--------------------|--------------------|------------------------|
|--12~---------------|--11~---------------|------------------------|
|--------------------|--------------------|-------810------9------|
|--------------------|--------------------|------------------------|
|--------------------|--------------------|------------------------|
|--------------------|--------------------|------------------------|

D G Am
-------------------|-----------------------|----------------------------------|
-------------------|--8----10----12--------|----------------------------------|
--7~---------------|-----------------------|--14--14--14--14--13--13--13--13--|
-------------------|-----------------------|----------------------------------|
-------------------|-----------------------|----------------------------------|
-------------------|-----------------------|----------------------------------|

Am7 F Eb G C

----------------------------------|-------------------------------------|------------|
----------------------------------|--10------12pbr--10--11~-----12~-----|--13~-------|
--12--12--12--12--11--11--11--11--|-------------------------------------|------------|
----------------------------------|-------------------------------------|------------|
----------------------------------|-------------------------------------|------------|
----------------------------------|-------------------------------------|------------|
Here's the intro again

And then there's verse 2 like above but this time the intro ends with:

A
---------------------|
--14~----------------|
---------------------|
---------------------|
---------------------|
---------------------|

and then we move on to the bridge ( and finally some strumming  ):

| A C#m | F#m | D G | a g# g f# f e |
(single notes)

| A C#m | F#m | D G | c h a# a g# g |

and now the solo:

Guitar solo:

C Cmaj7 C7
|----------------------|------------------------------|-----------------------8--8--10--|
|----------8-----------|-----------8b--8b-------------|----------8h-10-8--10------------|
|-----7h-9----9--------|------7h-9----------9~--------|-----7h-9------------------------|
|----------------------|------------------------------|---------------------------------|
|----------------------|------------------------------|---------------------------------|
|----------------------|------------------------------|---------------------------------|

F D

--12-10-8--------------8-8-----------|--------------------------------|
-----------10~----810----------8-8--|-----------------------------7--|
----------------------------79------|--------------------7--7--7-----|
-------------------------------------|--7~-------9--7--9--------------|
-------------------------------------|--------------------------------|
-------------------------------------|--------------------------------|

G Am
---------------------------12----11--10--|-----------------------|
--10br-10br-8-----14-13-11---------------|-----------------------|
-----------------------------------------|------7br-5-----7br-5--|
-----------------------------------------|-----------------------|
-----------------------------------------|-----------------------|
-----------------------------------------|-----------------------|

Am7 F Eb G C
--------------1012--10------10~------|-------------------------------------|------------
-----------8-------------13-------13--|--10~-----12pbr--10--11~-----12~-----|--13~------
-7br-5--9-----------------------------|-------------------------------------|-----------
--------------------------------------|-------------------------------------|-----------
--------------------------------------|-------------------------------------|-----------
--------------------------------------|-------------------------------------|-----------

After the solo it's back to the lead as in verse 2 but the ending with the intro riff is a tad different:

F Eb G
|-------------------------------------|
|--10~-----12pbr--10--11~-----12~-----|
|-------------------------------------|
|-------------------------------------|
|-------------------------------------|
|-------------------------------------|

A F Eb G C
|-------------14-13-12-------|-------------------------------------|---------------------|
|--14~-----------------------|--10~-----12pbr--10--11~-----12~-----|--13~----------------|
|----------------------------|-------------------------------------|---------------------|
|----------------------------|-------------------------------------|---------------------|
|----------------------------|-------------------------------------|---------------------|
|----------------------------|-------------------------------------|---------------------|

Done! Whew!
I never would have thought there would be this incredible amount of work just to explain how to play a song. And I didn't even bother with the lyrics... I mean some of the guys on this forum have tabbed and shared more than one great song! I am truly impressed !

All the best.

I've been working on this song and this posting was extremely helpful. Thanks a lot.

I had some trouble with the changes in the chorus from Am to Am-Maj7 (had a lot of trouble with that fingering for some reason). I found it much easier to play this section with a barre at the 5th fret. It sounds good and, if you can do barre chords, the changes are very easy. You can try these chords:

Am 577555
Am-Maj7 576555
Am7 575555
D7 x57575

Basically, while holding the barre with your index finger at the 5th fret, you remove your pinky from the Am barre chord and place your middle finger on the D string at the 6th fret for Am-Maj7. Then you remove the middle finger for Am7. Then you move your ring finger from the A string to the D string (at the 7th fret) and place your pinky on the B string of the 7th fret. Very easy.
