It's convention to write tab the other way, just as it's convention to write from left to right. It's not wrong as such, it's just confusing for no real reason.

But always put the high E string at top, and the bass E string on bottom in a tab.

Just a few tips on posting tabs here.

1)Write the tab in MS Word or Notepad using Courier New Font.

2)Highlight and Copy your tab

3)When you come here, click on Code above.

4)Paste in your tab

5)Click Preview below to see how your tab came out and if you need to make corrections. This also automatically inserts the end Code tag "

" for you.

6)If everything is correct, then click Submit

If you use this method your tabs will come spaced properly here.

Wes, thanks for the advice on posting. I've had lots of problems getting my posts properly aligned. Thanks to Greybeard and Elecktrablue responding to my request for help on another forum, I learned I should follow a procedure similar to the one you described. Worked much better, but I am still having some problems with the spacing. But I notice you said to use the Courier New font and I was using the New Times Roman. I think the Courier font will be the final piece of the puzzle to fix my problem. (I hope so anyway as my posts have been a painstaking ordeal for me.) I'll give it a go.

It seems to me instructions for posting, including the mechanics of using the code, bold and other functions (similar to what you described) would be a valuable sticky for all us Newbie posters (who are computer illiterate).

Glad to be of help. Yes, the font makes a big difference in spacing. I have found Courier New to work well. I also like size 12 myself.

Also, when tabbing take into consideration the space the Avatar section on the left takes up. So when you write a tab in Word, you can only go maybe 2/3rds of a page, else your spacing will be ruined. I would only write tab about as wide as this posting box. I hope you understand what I'm saying.

Thanks again Wes! Yes, I do understand. I've experience the "too wide' syndrome several times to my chagrin. I figured out I needed to narrow the width but didn't know why. This explains it! I've been using size 12, so I guess that's OK. I'll try to post a new song in the next day or so.
