The key to this song is its strumming patterns. I use the following patterns to mimic not only the guitar, but the song's beat or cadence.Intro: Am = DUD DUDU (emphasize bass strings on DUD)
Verses: Am = D DU
Em7 = DUDU
Chorus: on C-C7-F-Bb D DU UDU
Bridge: on D7-B7-A: D DU UDU
Ending: Am = DUD DUDU
End o Chorus 1: on last Am: DUD DUDU
Note: Em can be substituted for Em7 and if a Bb is too hard, use a simplified xxx331
Finally, note the key change to A at the end of Chorus 2, leading to the Bridge. Very cool. Hope you enjoy it.

Very nice Shrug. I don't so much emphasise the bass notes, but more give the first chord a sort of pre chord strum much like the original recording. Sort of a chuc- a -ching thing.
:wink:
Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!

I'm in total agreement on the chuc-a-ching . . . that's the hook that makes the song work. I was just trying to say that as part of that pattern, I strike the bass strings pretty hard. Thanks Rodders.
"Music hath charms to soothe a savage breast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak."
I stumbled across the verse to this while I was messing around with bass notes once, but never got around to looking the rest of it up. Another one crossed off my 'rememeber to look up' list and added to my 'get around to practicing' list :)
From my tinkering, I ended up playing a mix of the guitar and bass for it as below - it's a nice alternative to chords when you're unaccompanied.
