You Won't See Me - The Beatles

This is a Paul McCartney song.

The first times I played this song, quite slowly at first, I realized it was a much sadder song than I thought. The Beatles play it at a rather fast and energic tempo, which balances the sad tone of the words and chords.

As often with the Beatles, it's probably 2 different songs stitched together, for the grief of "Though the days are few, they're filled with tears" in the verse doesn't really fit with the rather cynical "I wouldn't mind if I knew what I was missing" in the bridge. But who cares, and altogether, it makes a great song!

There are a few unusual chords, but they are easy - generally 2 fingers are enough - and they sound great, so it's a little effort for a big reward.

Strumming pattern : D DU UD, slow and relaxed if you want to make it a melancholic song, faster and more tense if you want to play it like the Beatles. I played it along with the CD and it works fine, it just ads a rythm guitar which is not in the original track, you can almost believe you've become the 5th Beatle!

Al the chords are played during one bar, except the Dm6 and the B7 in the bridge that last for two bars....

Chords used in this song.

----A---B7---D---A7---Dm---D6---Dm6---E7sus4---E7
e---0---2----2----0-----1------2-----1-------0---------0--
b---2---0----3----2-----3------0-----0-------0--------(3)-
g---2---2----2----0-----2------2 ----2-------2---------1--
d---2---1----0----2-----0------0-----0-------0---------0--
a---0---2----X----0-----X------X-----X ------2---------2--
e---X---0----X----X-----X------X-----X ------0---------0--

Thanks Blind Lemon

Rubber Soul is my favorite Beatles album. I used to ride around and listen to this song in my car on an 8 track. Remember those? :D

Great song.

Yes Wes, I remember 8 tracks, but they were less common in Europe than in the USA.

I remember I recorded this song from the radio with my first cassette recorder. It was a black box with a single red button for fast forward/play/rewind/stop. Only Philips made them at that time. Do you remember those?

Who is going to give us the next Rubber Soul song? (David Hodge already gave us Nowhere Man).

Nice one Blind Lemon, I hadn't noticed this one before! Its a really nice tune and one I think that gets overlooked . Rubber Soul has some lovely tracks on it and this one is on a par with "In My Life" You have posted a really nice song here and one I havent thought about or heard for quite some time.
thank you

Wow ! Rodders, that's great to be thanked for something I've done more than 1 year ago! And at the same time I'm feeling guilty and selfish because I didn't post any new song since then, although I learned dozens of songs in the meantime, and many from this same forum.
You're reminding me I should share more. That's what this forum is all about, after all!

Lovely little number Blind_Lemon_Pye,

Almost forgotten how good that song was. Rubber Soul was such a beautiful little album. Also listening to it you don't realise how simply constructed this song is.

I picked it up from your tab really easily. The only tricky part for me was the chorus but thats me being left-handed mirroring the tab in my head to my fingers. If you see what I mean. but i got there though.

Another beatles tab nailed on the ESD. Thanks mate!

Chris

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)
