Did I damage my voice? Can it fully recover?

New Member

As much as people worry about losing their voice and it never recovering, the vocal chords are much more resilient than expected. I've been a rock/hardcore/metal vocalist for close to 2 years now and anybody who talks to me without knowing that information never guesses it because I still have a naturally clean timbre in my speaking voice.

I will admit that the first time I attempted such a thing, I was prone to sore throats and hoarseness. It wasn't a fun time. But I spent a long time training my vocals for such extreme conditions.

So yea, you can count on a voice healing after even an entire couple months of damage. The best remedy is to just lay off using your chords at all and keep your neck warm whether that's with a scarf or plenty of warm soup :)
