I am narrowing my search to replace my entry level Zoom G1X pedal and it looks like the DigiTech RP355 has the features I like:
1.) Twin Reverb and AC 30 emulations
2.) Pitch Bend (whammy) controlled by the pedal
3.) Wah
4.) Acoustic Simulation
5.) Tremolo
6.) Fuzz
7.) Direct to PA output
8.) Compressor
9.) Volume boost for solos

If you have one:
1.) Do you like it (pros and cons appreciated)
2.) Can you get decent sustain out of it.

If you have anything with ALL of the above requirements that is better and $200 or less, I'd appreciate suggestions.

It will be a Father's Day present from the pretty lady in my Avatar so I won't be getting it for a while. All suggestions will be researched.

Thanks

I've been busy lately and I haven't been reading the forum as often and this board not at all. I posted about this pedal in reply to somebody else a little bit back - http://forums.guitarnoise.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=47209

To directly answer your questions. I think it sounds great. It isn't infinitely tweakable like a software model but that can be a good thing too. Perhaps the only real downside is that I need to get out the reading glasses (for those of us 40-something plus) to tweak the models on the pedal but once you've done so there is no need for regular playing since the display is big and legible.

You will want to make your own settings beyond the built-in ones. There are some very good ones there already but you may want to set up similar models next to each other - perhaps exact same settings except this one has chorus and the other has reverb or both or whatever. To allow for easy changing between songs. Also, there are some nice amp models in the device that have no sample settings so you may want to build your own with them (amps like the Fender Champ - e.g. the amp used by a lot of 60's & 70's bands to record many famous songs).

I've got the predecessor to it, an RP300. Great rig, probably the most versatile and best sounding effects pedal I have any experience with.

I did end up buying the 355. First impression, it's great. Now I'm learning how to "tame" it. There are a lot of parameters to play with and I'm having fun tweaking them to see what they can do.

Notes,

If you haven't already downloaded the software for the pedal it's well worth it. It's a big help in taming it.

Yes, the software is a blessing. Downloaded it right away.

There are just so many controls to tweak, and so little time to do it!!! I could spend days playing with it, but other things (like work) get in the way.

I am a gigging musician, the band salesman, the creator of our backing tracks, a style disk/fake disk aftermarket author for the Band-in-a-Box auto-accompaniment program (also styles for Microsoft Songsmith), and I just released 3 new style disks and one new fake disk for Band-in-a-Box. Life is extremely busy, but I like it that way!!!

I've tweaked a few of the presets and created a couple from scratch. They sound good to my ears. I've also downloaded a number of patches from the Digitech site. But right now, the menu is too large ;-)

Poco a poco (little by little) I'll get more out of it. I've got it to the point where I need it on the gig, the rest will be delightful exploration that should result in new sounds for me and new ways to express myself on the guitar.

I've been a musician all my life, started on drums but moved over to sax, followed up with flute, keyboard synth, wind synth, bass, and rhythm guitar (barre chords mostly). A couple of years ago I decided to get serious with the guitar and started putting a couple of hours per day on it. I wish I had started this years earlier. Although I've progressed quite well for the time I've put on it (playing bass and the music theory from other instruments helped), I am impatient to be even better. But then, that's what makes music such a great way to make a living. There is always a new thrill waiting around the next corner.
