Boss AC adapter with Maxon pedal?

Today I bought a Maxon OD-808 overdrive pedal and I love it. But I just tried to open it up to check the battery and see what it's like inside and the screws are pretty tight! I'm going to get it open at some point, but I'm curious about the power adapter it requires.

I have a Boss PSA-120 AC adapter, but don't have any Boss pedals. Would I be able to use it with this Maxon pedal or does each pedal have a specific proprietary type it requires?

IIRC, the Boss adapter is the common negative-tip, positive-sleeve type.

There are a few pedals that require the opposite. I've read that the Ibanez reissue 808s are like that, so you wouldn't want to use the Boss adapter with one of those.

According to the Maxon effects manual, all of their own power supplies are center (tip) negative, so you should be good to go.

That being said, I take no responsibility if you blow it up.

Ok, after a bit more research I think I figured out what was going on. The Boss adapter (9v/200mA) doesn't seem to work with my Ibanez CS-9 chorus, but my Tascam adapter (9v/600mA) does seem to. I'm fine with running on batteries for now, plus I can open up the CS-9 easily onstage if I need to. The Maxon OD-808 is shut TIGHT with 4 screws that don't seem to want to turn, though.

The Boss adapter seems to work with the Maxon but it's not as reliable as the Tascam one--it either has to do with the Maxon's input plug or the Boss's plug, because if I wiggle it around in place I can get it to turn on, but only at a certain orientation. The Tascam adapter seems to power the Maxon no matter what.

I'm guess what I'll do in the future is get a Boss TU-2 or NS-2 (eventually both) and use one or both to daisy chain power to the pedals that need it. And plug the Tascam 600mA adapter into the Boss power pedal.
