I still haven't built mine to tell you how it goes, mostly cause we were away all winter, but now have 6 pedals laying on the floor in front of me and the resident music room duster is starting to complain so I think that is one of my first jobs this spring. Back to the second hand stores to find a vintage suitcase.

thanks, i wouldnt even consider building my own effects, i was talking about the pedal board itself, not the effects. thanks though
A pedal board?
How about this:
A plank of wood
Glue
Velcro
Glue the velcro to the wood and attached some velcro to the bottom of each pedal.
Of course, it'll be pretty basic but that's the general idea. If you wanted it to open and close then you might need some more woodworking skills.

ive been doing some more research and it seems like once i get some pedals i will definately be building my own board instead of dishing out a few hundred bucks. the only thing that im still in question about is a power strip. what kind would i need to get to attach to the board?
There are several on this site that recommend the 1spot adapter by visualsound.net -they can power several pedals with the use of a daisy chain adapter, sold by them and others. Each daisy chain connects to up to 5 pedals by using 2 chains you could power more. The adapter has a total output of 1700 mA, each of my pedals uses about 100 mA each. These adapters are very inexpensive and seem to be reliable.I have one and have been very satisfied so far. The info on them is here:

edit: maybe you are referring to AC power and not 9v DC adapters- I have not used a power strip so far maybe someone else has an answer.
 Sorry got the wrong end of the stick......
^^ These ideas sound good! :P
I would just use batteries, but that would be a bit more expensive (depending on how many pedals you have) then just plugging everything in.
