I just got the new http://www.tech21nyc.com/character_series.html Tech 21 SansAmp British pedal (Character Series) yesterday. I bought it exclusively for direct recording so i made a few sound clips to demonstrate its greatness. Yeah there are sound clips on the Tech 21 site but I wanted to show how easy it is to just plug in and get a great sound. I could have used a noise reduction pedal but I wanted the pedal to be heard without external devices. The only thing I added was a touch of reverb. The tracks were doubled (i.e., recorded two unique tracks and panned them L/R). I recorded these clips in a matter of minutes. I can't wait to record an entire song with this new tone!

I've been hearing good things about these pedals. I think Mitch aka slejhammer has one as well.

Nice tone. Good job on the KISS riffs!

I just learned of these. finally a move in the right direction. I quit pedal boards long ago. what I wanted was a stripped rig with a pedal with dials I could fiddle with to tune my tones. now there you go. sweet pedals. there must have been a market demand
for this generation of stomp boxes. the others are good, but each have limits. hmmm maybe i'll drop into a store.

These are an example of the kind of gear Guitar Center won't have in the store for players to try out. Unfortunately, you have to just buy it and try it. In my case, this proved to be a great find, especially for direct recording.

GC would not have this . that is true. they carry the generic pedals. I have been 'boutiquing' for awhile and finding the quality and exactness is there.

I've had my eye on those and the Rocktron SilverDragon. I think the Rocktron will be next, course I just got the Line 6 Uber Metal Tonecore.

Ah, I missed this thread earlier. Yes indeed, I have the Liverpool (Vox) version. In fact, it's currently up for sale on ebay! One reason being, these are "sansamps" and really were intended for direct recording, or for running to a PA or to one of Tech21's "Power Engines" (basically power-amp combos with full-range, flat-response speakers.) For what it is, it's excellent. Truly Vox in a box. But the biggest drawback I find is that you can't defeat the built-in speaker emulation. I have a Vox-voiced amp with a high-end "blue" speaker, so it's a bit overkill and can sound a bit congested.

I ran it straight to the auxiliary input of my home stereo and it killed, so I give Tech21 high marks for their gear - they do what they say. Jip's sound clips make the point.

For me, a plain overdrive and/or distortion pedal is a better option.
