or to play the major pentatonic you could always use the same pattern accross the whole neck, just drop your starting point back 3 frets.

Works with the blues scale as well.

Now I've been blending the two.

I make the first pass from 6th to 1st string, pentatonic.
I come back from 1st to 6th, blues.

I go all the way up(toward the pick ups) the neck and come back doing the opposite way .
starting with Blues & coming back pentatonic.

When I've finished with that key, I play the top three strings of one box pattern & continue with the last three of the next box pattern on the bottom three strings...

Does that make any sense or am I more bored than I think I am??

okay, so, as i started the thread i am clearly no expert on the blues scale. but if i get you correct tinsmith, what you are saying is that you are simply training your fingers to switch between the two scales, at will. that surely cant be a bad thing :D

You can freely mix the two, as well as switching between them.

Yes...I am trying to mix & match cause when I play the minor pent scale I just play the minor pent scale. When I play the blues scales I just play the blues scale. I don't hardly mix the scales except for maybe one or two patterns.

I do realize they are basically the the same, but I learned the blues scale first & learned the fingerings different so therefore, it seems like a different scale. That's why I'm mixing them because they really should be one.

I think it's more of a fingering thing for me.....

Seems like forever......

Pay attention Tin
