I am learning "Gunners Dream" by Pink Floyd off of The Final Cut and it calls for a D/C chord...I've been trying to play it as a standard D major, using my 1, 2 & 3 fingers for the chord and then reaching the C on the A string (3rd fret) with my pinky...while also playing the D string open - it's killing me...

any suggestions or is it just another matter of toughing it out?

Thanks!

Julius

Hey Tom, thanks, but wouldn't that give me the notes,

Top to bottom

x
B (2nd fret)
D (open)
F (1st fret)
D (3rd fret)
F (1st fret)

A Dmaj is made up of D, F#, & A...and then supposed to be adding the bass note of C to it, correct? Or am I reading what your saying wrong?

You're reading it wrong - I gave you finger numbers, not frets.

Fingers: x20131
Frets: x30232

So the notes, from bass up, are C-D-A-D-F# - the D/C chord.

i dont know if it matters but I find it easiest to play this with my thumb wrapping all the way around for the C.

wow... the only chord I ever fret using thumb over two strings is one voicing of a 6/9. It's just too darn uncomfortable, and hard to make into smooth changes.

Wrist rotation is a big deal to me. I've worked for a lot of years on making really smooth chord transitions, and I try to avoid yanking my wrist back and forth to reach things.

The 6/9 is almost always a closing chord, so I don't have to worry about how I leave it.
