It's a pretty versatile chord, because of the symmetrical root... viewed with different notes as the root, it can be seen as other chord names:

Cm7b5 = C-Eb-Gb-Bb
Ebm6 = Eb-Gb-Bb-C (a perfect synonym)
Gb6b5 = Gb-Bb-Dbb-Eb
...

I almost always treat a mi7b5 chord as a sub for a Vdom9 chord. In this case, Ab9, and play my mixobluesian licks over it accordingly.

Ab9 = Ab-C-Eb-Gb-Bb
