Hiya,

Put simply:

Consonance - two or more notes that create harmony or a chord when played together. For example - D, F# and A to create a chord of D Major.

Dissonance - two sounds that do not make harmony and need to be resolved. For example - D, F# and G which is a chord of Gsus4. The F# and the G are only a semitone apart so they clash, and this chord needs to resolve to a normal D Major chord.

Hope this helps.

Best,

A :-)
