What method of practicing relative pitch worked for you?

Right - absolute pitch ability isn't necessary but relative pitch ability is absolutely essential to achieving an advanced level of musicianship, even for those with absolute pitch, The good news is that, unlike with absolute pitch, EVERYONE of normal hearing ability can develop relative pitch ability.
Here's a freeware ear training program to help you do just that:

Another one can be used online (or downloaded if you'd wish) at http://www.musictheory.net

Learn sol feggio. It's not as difficult as it sounds. In fact, you may have learned it already if you were paying attention to Julie Andrews in "The Sound of Music" (am I dating myself?). Here is a link which explains all of the chromatic syllables:

Learn the ones in the middle first. That would be the major scale. I still can't carry a tune in a bucket, but I can sing in the choir if I have the music in front of me. Learning to sol feg is the only way I got through Aural Theory so many years ago.

Good Luck!

If you want to be good, practice. If you want to be great, you must constantly change the way you think.

I've been trying a few things and in a few days I've gotten better.

I've been using an awesome program called Earmaster Pro 5.
You can download it for free and use it in 30 days.
It includes lessons for how to identify intervals, chords, rythms, scales and melodies.
I've used it in a week now and think it already made me a lot better at recognicing different intervals.

I'm trying that EarMaster Pro, now. It's really fun actually. Thanks for the link. 8)

First I bought it, then I paid for it.
