I love this song and enjoy Dhoges mp3 of it the last mp3 on the lesson,However im a beginner and Dave showed the alternate picking of the (a )chord and it looks like he left the rest of the picking to the beginner to figure out...I would be most apreciative if someone would post the whole song in tab with the picked notes for each cord.

mmmm... I got that it was the same alternating bass notes as covered in Folsom Prison Blues, but it is a different rhythm ... also one that naturally lends itself to being played very S-L-O-W-L-Y, in fact slow is a good thing in this song and not just for us newbies! I tell myself the odd THUNK adds real county blues authenticity LOL
BTW I like to lead off with the signature riff, apologies in advance to any purist for my notational style: Pluck open high E string (your), slide from 5th fret to 2nd with feeling, hit open string once more (chea-ea-tin'), and then finish with 2nd fret of 2nd string (heart) ... a pause to collect thoughts here is OK then start song, I like to play through once or twice (don't ask me to play AND sing) and finish off with the riff, let last note quaver sorrowfully into silence :D
Hope that helps!

What if the Hokey Pokey IS what it's really all about?

Thanks stellaboo for your input ,im going to go try that..I really like the song version played here and love the thunk too...being a newbie and and old timer It takes me longer to figure these things out!...I just was hoping for the right string at the right word change then I could get the song to sound correct...I think!
My problem is i wont learn a new song untill I got the 4, I know to sound correct and im gettin tired of playin the same 4 songs(LOL)

Well hey harley you must be doing great if you can play cheatin heart with only 3 other songs under your belt! ... yeah OK we're not suppose to move onto the next song until the first one is perfect, but I figure, life is short, practice time is limited and besides I get bored easy - so I work on one 'new' song until I know the chord sequence and as soon as it feels like too much work and no gain, it's time to move on to another song or put the guitar AWAY... some of my biggest breakthroughs come when I'm asleep LOL
BTW I found that Bruce Springsteen song 'Fire' in the lesson section really is FUN - and easy (pretty easy on the fingers too), just like David says and a good way to work on maintaining a rhythm using bass notes :D .
