im in the middle of writing a little epic song...

it has a first part. then changes tempo and key, then stops and changes tempo and key again...
only goes for around 5 minutes...but its a nice mix of three different songs with enough in common to not sound disjointed..

but my question was, what "epic sprawling" songs are out there that i could listen to and get ideas?

thanks

I love picking apart Gn'R's November Rain, Coma, Civil War and Estranged for that kind of thing, although Coma is probably the only that encompasses enough variety of tempo etc. to live up to all the criteria you mention. Then of course there are the grand-daddies of them all: Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to Heaven. :)

"2112" by Rush
"Change of Seasons" by Dream Theater (this and 2112 are, to me, the best epic songs ever as both the music and lyrics tell the story and there's nothing extraneous)
The entire album "Scenes from a Memory" by Dream Theater
"Dogs", "Sheep" and "Pigs (3 Different Kinds) by Pink Floyd (the Animals album)
"Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Iron Maiden

Bass player for Undercover

Would "American Pie" qualify?

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
