"oh, eventually it will break your heart" - anders wendin
word up to bluenightangel. Totally agree wit you on Daniel Johns- truly one of the greatest talents still alive today, Kurt, and Leonard Cohen lovin it. John Butler is also amazing- check him out The John Butler Trio from Oz
while i am very much a fan of daniel johns (in both his silverchair and his current dissociatives incarnations), his song structure and melodies are fantastic, but some times, too often in my opinion, his lyrics are a little foolish... i think that is all that seperates him from the greats listed here...
currently number 60 in total posts... and shooting for number 1!!
Missed Roy Orbison and Springsteen off my original list.......
:) :) :)
"Sometimes the beauty of music can help us all find strength to deal with all the curves life can throw us." (D. Hodge.)
I'll add to the list:
Billy Joel - From "Italian Restaurant" to "The Entertainer" to "Alexa", a great story teller.
Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) for clever lyrics
Melissa Etheridge - some songs are lame, but there are a few lyrical gems: "Tuesday Morning" is quite powerful.
Dar Williams - very folky, but "Christians and Pagans" and "When I was a Boy" are very well written.
Can anyone suggest a songwriter with an exceptional voice, or are they mutually exclusive?
