Rain

There's a girl I used to see around
Once in a while
She had a smile that could always
Light up the wrong side of the moon,
Or chase the shadows from a windowless room
Now I've been too many days
Standing in the shade
Guess I'm afraid that I've lost the sun
Tomorrow's looking grim
Her skies are gray and I can feel the wind

Now the rain is pouring down her face
Too many memories that she can't erase
I'm doing what I can to help the pain
As she shakes I hold her close to me
But there's still a frown where that smile should be
What I wouldn't give to stop the rain.

She's the type to say everything's all right
Then go home and cry
Most of every night
On a bed where she's alone
In a house that doesn't feel like home
And I dared to think that I could be
The one to set her free
Give her some better dreams
But in her smile's afterglow
I can see the fuses starting to blow

As the rain comes pouring down her face
Too many memories that she can't erase

The storm clouds have been replaced
And for the first time it feels like a brand new day
Now she laughs as she clings tight to me
And for a change, I can breathe
And it's hard to even remember the rain
Can't remember what it felt like to watch the rain.
