a really simple song for once!

Successfully Failing
I know that you won't ever be by my side
Then again I don't always have to be right
How I wish that I was wrong but now I'm standing all alone again
Picking myself up from the middle of the road again

Hello do you remember me?
I'm the object of your sympathy
Hey I've been here all along
Successfully failing…

It took a long time and I never did find out what you really meant to say
Through all those words for what they were worth could've taken you either way
How I wish that I was wrong but now I'm standing all alone again
Picking myself up from the middle of this road again

Hello do you remember me?
I'm the object of your sympathy
Hey I've been here all along
Successfully failing…

I know that you won't ever be by my side
Then again I don't always have to be right…

Hello do you remember me?
I'm the object of your sympathy
Hey I've been here all along
Successfully failing…

il put a (dodgey and basic) recording up soon, so people can put tune to words
so....what do you think? :)

Howdy coleclark. A good song, but the syllable count and meter is wild.

Song as written:

Successfully Failing

I know that you won't ever be by my side =11
Then again I don't always have to be right =11
How I wish that I was wrong but now I'm standing all alone again =17
Picking myself up from the middle of the road again =14

Hello do you remember me? =8
I'm the object of your sympathy =9
Hey I've been here all along =7
Successfully failing… =6

It took a long time and I never did find out what you really meant to say =19
Through all those words for what they were worth could've taken you either way =17
How I wish that I was wrong but now I'm standing all alone again =17
Picking myself up from the middle of this road again =14

Chorus

I know that you won't ever be by my side =11
Then again I don't always have to be right… =11

Chorus
-------------------------------------------------------
A suggested edit:

Successfully Failing

Dear, I know that you won't ever be by my side =12
But then again I don't always have to be right =12
I wish I was wrong but I'm now standing alone =12
Picking myself up from the middle of the road again =14

Hello, do you remember me =8
No object of your sympathy =8
I've been here all along, you see =8
Successfully failing… =6

I never found out what you really meant to say =12
Your senseless words could have taken you either way =12
I wish I was wrong but I'm now standing alone =12
Picking myself up from the middle of the road again =14

Chorus

Yes, I know that you won't ever be by my side =12
But then again I don't always have to be right… =12

Chorus

hey, thanks for the effort.

syllable counts arent very important though...unless...well..i dunno when they would be important...if the song flows seamlessly and the emphasis lands on the right parts thats written correctly to me...

how do you view it? having all the verses with the same amount of syllables just takes the 'spice' out of it and makes it a bit flat i think....

Yep, I readily acknowledge that only you, the singer, really knows what the length should be.
As for standardization being "flat", I don't feel that's the case. Emphasis can still be placed
on key words to make the song live.
The main reason I like to pay more attention to the syllable count is for easier music notation,
even though I personally don't write music. Maybe this could be a subject for discussion
among our forumites who write music.

yeah i do agree that writing music for other peoples words is HARD! and having a simple regular flow in syllables really makes it easier, iv had a bit of experience in this regard. maybe thats why (in a small way) the pop singers that dont write there own music all sound the same! and the independant artists that do all the work themselves end up having unique sounds
