Can you use trade names in a song? For example, "I was driving down the road in my black Cadillac" or "Son eat your Wheaties and your mamma won't leave ya".

A few examples;

Well I don't know who I am driving in a Pontiac just about to loose my mind

Tulsa Time - Eric Clapton

I would buy you a K car
A nice Reliant automobile

If I Had a Million Dollars - Bare Naked Ladies

We learned about love in the back of a Dodge the lesson hadn't gone too far

Taxi - Harry Chapin

Honey I wonder what you do there in the back of your pink Cadillac

Pink Cadillac - Bruce Springsteen

So you decide to take a holiday You got your tape deck and your brand new Chevrolet

Captain Jack - Billy Joel

Son you're gonna drive me ta drinkin' if you don't stop drivin' that hot rod Lincoln

Hot Rod Lincoln - Commander Cody

My guess would be that it's Ok. Espesially if it's a major American automolile manufacturer.

I'm sure there are plenty more examples out there.

You know what they say "Any publicity is good publicity".

As long as you don't use the name in a negative context, I don't think you'll have a problem.

If you do use the the name in a negative context, the manufacturer will still turn it into good publicity by suing you. 8) 8)

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

These are fine examples. Thanks for the input. I still wonder, however, if somewhere along the line these performers acquired some form of permission. I would not expect we would know about that. Thanks again.
