When The Mockingbird Of Texas Sings (Larry W. Jones 03/08/2007) (song#4509)

Bright Texas stars and the moon are shining
Down on the purple sage of the prairie plain
Now, I can't complain but I sure am pining
For a Texas love that I may never see again

Oh, I remember the day when I met her
I thought she wore a pair of angel's wings
And there's no way that I can forget her
When the Mockingbird of Texas sings

I left when the stars and moon were shining
I had to ride to the roundup in the spring
I returned to find her gone, my heart's dying (thanks to Surly for rewrite of this line)
Now, only the Mockingbird of Texas sings

Oh, I remember the day when I met her
I thought she wore a pair of angel's wings
And there's no way that I can forget her
When the Mockingbird of Texas sings

Spring is the time when doves are mating
She said when I returned, love she'd bring
With heart burning she'll find me waiting
When the Mockingbird of Texas sings

Oh, I remember the day when I met her
I thought she wore a pair of angel's wings
And there's no way that I can forget her
When the Mockingbird of Texas sings

a nice country ballad. I think it would sound pretty good to music.

If i could offer a suggestion, rhyming 'shining' with 'pining' twice in consecutive verses grates with me a bit. nice chorus too.

Hello Surly. You are observant. I had the same reluctance as I was writing.
I could have used "whining" but that would have destroyed the whole song.
Because you brought this to light, I've rewritten the line.
What do you think of this?:

I left when the stars and moon were shining
I had to ride to the roundup in the spring
I returned to find her gone, my heart's dying
Now, only the Mockingbird of Texas sings

thanks for your input. I appreciate it.......LWJ

nice. I think that sounds good with the rewrite. good imagery.
