on the theme of forgetting, how did I forget to post this one?!?!
Tom Waits, All The World Is Green
The face forgives the mirror
The worm forgives the plow
The questions begs the answer
Can you forgive me somehow?
started me onto him, I just had to find more from then on. Beautifully constructed.
Oops - how could I forget....
"...tie your mother down, take your little brother swimming with a brick, that's alright.." - Brian May (Queen), Tie Your Mother Down.
"Be good at what you can do" - Fingerbanger"

"Don't wanna ride no shootin' star. Just wanna play on the rhythm guitar." Emmylou Harris, "Rhythm Guitar" from "The Ballad of Sally Rose"
Wayyyy too many lyrics that I love but the first thing that jumped out at me are the lyrics from Roger Waters' "Amused to Death"
...and when they found our shadows
grouped round the tv sets
they ran down every lead
they repeated every test
they checked out all the data on their list
and then the alien anthropologist
admitted they were still perplexed
but on eliminating every other reason
for our sad demise
they logged the only explanation left
this species has amused itself to death
no tears to cry, no feelings left
the species has amused itself to death
amused itself to death
Teamwork- A few harmless flakes working together can unleash an avalanche of destruction.
Topical right now with Paul McCartney's psychopathic ex in all the papers
"...today the headlines, tomorrow hard times, and no-one ever really knows the truth from the lies.." - Queen, Scandal

John Prine, Everybody,
I bumped into the saviour
And he said pardon me
I said "jesus you look tired"
He said "jesus so do you,
Sit down son
'cause I got some fat to chew"
Some of my favorite lines were written by Jimmy Buffett; they're just so full of irony and wit:
"If we weren't all crazy we would go insane"
"We are the people our parents warned us about"
"I'm growing older but not up; my metabolic rate is pleasently stuck."
"I ate the last mango in Paris; I took the last plane out of Saigon..."
"Well I wish I had a pencil thin mustache; then I could solve some mysteries too."
"Little roadside restauant we artfully complain; Rudy tells the waitress that his chicken died in vain."
"In 1984 Mick Jagger came through town, bought the house a round, signed his name on the wall...in the ladies' bathroom stall."
I could go on and on.

Mike
"Growing Older But Not UP!"
'We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land' -civil war by Guns 'n' Roses
Pink Floyd -
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town - (I really love this line for some reason; I have always had a vivid picture in my head of this moment in the song)
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
There are too many to mention but one that always sticks out for me is a John Mayer song
"We bit our lips, She looked out the window
Rolling tiny balls of napkin paper
I played a quick game of chess
with the salt and pepper shaker"
I always found that line visually stimulating because we've all been there in that akward situation where you just fumble for something to play with, hoping the situation resolves itself.

“The hardest thing in life is to know which bridge to cross and which to burn” - David Russell (Scottish classical Guitarist. b.1942)
Mine are from the song 'How deep is your love' by Bee Gees.
The most lovely and meaningful love song for me...
''I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
Youre the light in my deepest darkest hour
Youre my saviour when I fall
And you may not think
I care for you
When you know down inside
That I really do
And its me you need to show...''
Wish I could play it on the guitar. However, the melody is so varied that I can't fit it in my limited knowledge of chords...
Ah well, a great song. :)
"I dream that she aims to be the bloom upon my misery" - Mike Doughty
"Music the great communicator,
Use two sticks to make it in the nature"
