Been playing guitar for two years and still only know a handful of solos, most of which I only know parts of. Stairway to Heaven's solo I had another go at today, and I still just can't get it sounding quite right. TBH, learning solos becomes depressing, as I can never get it to sound right. I think it is better to learn whole songs, and maybe even work out how to make your own mini solo once you know the song well enough. I find playing the dead simple little solo in The Beatle's I Feel Fine in the context of the whole song much more satisfying than most of the more technically impressive ones I've tried to learn.

One Lifeson selection, and they pick "Working Man???"

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I concur! What about YYZ, La Villa Strangiatto, Limelight, Red Barchetta? Any one of those songs easily blows away working man. Obviously not a Rush fan.

November Rain is up there? Above Hotel California?

I'd take that list and wipe my butt with it. It sucks. But then again, I have yet to find one of these 'lists' that really nails it anyway. But please, November Rain that high up in the list. Give me a break. :?

And if that wasn't stupid enough, Smells like teen spirit above Mr. Crowley and Surfing with the alien? I didn't even know that song had a solo in it. Let alone a good solo. But hey, Aqualung was ahead of all of them!

Go learn 100 solos that YOU wnat to learn. Stray away from these moronic lists. They wont help you. 8)

check out my website for good recording/playing info

I agree, that list leaves something to be desired.
They sure have Angus pretty far down the list, and the entry of "You Shook Me"? Try "Whole Lotta Rosie", "Let There Be Rock" or "Shake a Leg" from the Back in Black album. Also, I might get beat up for this, but, As far as Zep, the lead in "Since I've Been Lovin' You." is better than "Stairway".
That's my 2 cents. Keep Rockin'.

Haha, well to update my year-old thread, I learned about 2 and a half of those solos and gave up after that! Such is the kind of commitment I have come to expect from myself! I must give myself a pat on the back though - I didn't learn anything about guitar playing but I did create my first 3-page thread at GuitarNoise!

Well dont keep us in suspence any longer !!
Lets hear what you have achieved in your year.
Learning 2 solos that you can play well is better than 100 poorly played in my book.

Im sure that the 2 you have learned must by now be finely honed in the 12 months since your first post .

Dont give a shite about punctuation or spelling , I have to do that all day at work.
Free times for rocking !!

His blog is still up, but was last updated with the info that he was going to start learning his first solo . . .

I have a feeling this project fell by the wayside.

Here's another 100 Greatest Guitar Solos, but this one is strictly tablature downloads. http://guitar.about.com/library/bl100greatest.htm

http://www.torrentbox.com/download.php/12676/100%20Greatest%20Guitar%20Solos.torrent is where you'll find the download martin6 was referring to (I believe! Tell me if I'm wrong, martin6!). In order to use it you'll also have to download http://www.utorrent.com/download/1.5/uTorrent-1.5-install.exe
