As an old hack of a guitarist I am now of an age where I would like to take things one stage further and start a small collection of antique acoustic guitars, but befoe I spend hard earned cahs I would like to gain a little knowlwdgew first. Anyone here who can recommend any good books/ magazines for a relative newbie to this area?
I am looking more for guitars with a historical significance frm a construction/ art point of view rather than hoping that one day I could own Jimmy Hendrix' first guitar!!
Thanks folks
D
What did the guitarist do when he was told to turn on his amp?
He caressed it softly and told it that he loved it.
My best advice isn't a book. Although there are a few out there. Vintage Guitars is a great mag, and worth the read. But what you really want to do is find the nearest vintage guitar store and go hang out there and talk with the owners. I guarantee they'll know far more about them than you'll ever read in a magazine, and in my experience they love to talk guitars as much as they love to sell them.

Hi,
+1 to KP's tips.
On a slightly different tack, if you want to whet your appetite for some of the huge range of possibilities with regard to construction, style, history, regional developments, etc then try this site. Many photos of fascinating instruments from around the world:
Cheers,
Chris
Vintage Guitar magazine is a good start. read up on stuff posted on Ederly Music. they have vintage guitars.
learn the makes; there are many and some manufacturers made guitars under many names.
watch ebay for prices and ideas.
you will see some brands and years, particularly pre WWII , will comand higher prices.
there are great vintage guitars out there. have fun and post pics.
Thanks for the link Chris - just one problem now. I want everything.
