has anyone ever done this before? im very interested in doing it but dont know how to quite go about it if i didnt know the luthier personally. ive done modifications to my own guitars before (setups, scalloping, made a fretless) so i know i have a nack for it. right now im in college for eletrical engineering as i would like to one day build amps/pedals aswell. any advice/stories from personal experiences would ge great.

you might approach a luthier and offer yourself as an unpaid intern. unfortunatly some may be wary and think of you as nosey and possible future competition. networking seems to be the best approach with any cool job. how that would be done in your case is beyond me. maybe be nice and hang out. show your respect and interest. ask intelligent questions.

As is always the case, it's not what you know, its who you know. Seems kinda stupid, but i'd say its true 98% of the time.
