After listening to the Allman Brothers at FIllmore East, I really wanted to try out slide guitar. I've been searching online but I couldn't find any lessons for people who never played slide before. If anyone knows a good site, could you please help me out?
Hey blackzerogsh, funny you should ask ... I was just doing an electric slide overdub at an "add-a-track" project that goes on at another site.
you can listen to it here if you like:

I always play in dropped D tning, just the bass string. I highly recommend it, as you don't need to relearn your whole fretboard, but I understand that most players like open tunings.
If you're interested, I have posted several lessons at http://www.thatllteachyou.com/granted.html

Aww man, you never cease to amaze me Kirk. That was some great playing. I think im gonna get a guitar and set it up a bit higher just for slide (because of you; Duane Allman really doesnt impress me that much, maybe i just havent heard enough, i do enjoy me some muddy waters though). All the guitars i have are set really low (because its really easy to play that way and i get no buzz). Cool man. Cool.
That site and kirk's site are what got me into slide way back when. I played it a lot on my acoustic (which i love, acoustic slide is great, i prefer them to resonators).

I was doing the electric slide the other night :)

Check the tab section on Electrablue's site for a short pdf file on slide techniques too.

I would call myself a decent slide player, the best advice I would give is to play with a light touch (with your left fretting hand) and rather than worrying about where the frets are, worrying about the pitches that you are or aren't hitting: it's similar to bending strings, you just have to train your ear.
