Hi!
Does it happen to you... when playing in front of people... say at a party, or home in front of some friends... you start great... sing better... but mess the end of the songs?
It happens a lot to me... I start well... sing nice... but dont know how to end the song. I mean... i don't get that "WoW :o  " from the faces of my friends, but a "well... that wasn't bad :? "
I play acoustic, and I play unplugged, so I can sing along. Maybe I make the songs too short, you know... I don't like to sing the full 3 or 4 verses plus the choruses, only 2x2 or so (people get bored?¿?)
I would thank your opinion
It doesn't if you have practised well.Do that.
Best of luck next time ,

put your soul into it. then it doesn't matter what other people think.
Yes well it's hard to do that slow fade, like they do on the recordings...
Just as you usually create a good intro to a song, you need to construct an outro. Since you are playing solo, this should be a bit easier than trying to coordinate a big finish 8) Sometimes all you need to do is repeat the last phrase of the chorus, and end by hitting the last chord hard and holding it. Look around and nod, and you're done.

Yep. The band spends a lot of time figuring out how best to conclude a song and we often play around with a number of different endings.
Well we all shine on--like the moon and the stars and the sun.

It's a question of how well you can bluff it, methinks.
There was a great occasion in Frankfurt, as I got to the end of my "specially written for this series of concerts" flamenco piece, in front of a full house and cameras, that I racked up the speed through the end-of-piece accelerando and went for the 5th position Am final chord, and hit a dirty great Bbm - killed it instantly, stood up, bowed with sufficient flourish to impress a visiting monarch, took the applause, and hoped it wouldn't notice much on the video.
Best,

Has anyone tried fanning upwards on the strings with your fingers on the last chord? I noticed Knopfler did it on one song when I got to see him live last summer.

there's always the rock n roll song ending. finish the song with a flurry, wait a beat, and BLAM! the root chord.
My favourite method is to pay a couple of close friends in the crowd who will go mad and start clapping when the song ends.

very nice "tecnique"
Thanks all for your replies
On some strumming songs, I just try to clip the last 2 or 3 strings on the last strum. May not work for all songs, but does the job for some.

They say only a pawnshop guitar can play the blues. An eBay one does it better. A guitar's bound to feel unloved if her owner plasters pictures of her over the internet for all to see and then sells her off to the highest anonymous bidder.
Another good way to end a song is the surprise ending. I like this because it really throws the listener.
What I mean is that if you were singing a chorus like, "You can't always get what you want" you stop short like, "You can always get what you..."
You just stop short. What is really funny is when one of the listeners sings the last word for you. :D
You can't do this on every song. This only works when unexpected.
