it's a noel strat with a humbucker at the bridge. white. i may paint it. i have no pics. i also got a little casino amplifier that's battery powered or can use a 9v adaptor. thing is, it has a high pitched buzz when i crank up the distortion and volume, which wasn't there at the store when i was using just the battery. it goes away when i touch the strings, though. maybe i should lower the pickups or something. i don't know. i hope it's not a wiring problem. i also got some guitar stands, which i've only needed for about a decade. whole kit n kaboodle cost me a little less than $200. i'm not going to lie and says it sounds amazing, but i needed an electric, and it sounds decent.
That high pitched buzz is probably poor earthing. Try using the amp with a 9v battery - you shouldn't have any buzz.
Either the transformer or your home's mains ring isn't adequately earthed.
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

how would i fix that?
edit:with the batteries, the amp is actually a lot noisier when i touch the string.
The transformer can't, usually, be fixed. It, generally, comes with two core wire, so there's no way to earth it. You'll have to buy a better power supply with three core wire and earth pin (three pin plug).
The mains ring can be sorted out by a qualified electrician, but may mean having to have the whole house (or part of it) rewired.
This is, of course, assuming that the problem is earthing.

Earthing.....is this the same thing a grounding?
I may grow old, but I'll never grow up.
I assume so. I've never heard of earthing before but the Dutch word for grounding is the literal translation of earthing (aarden).
Jason: Have fun with it. :)

Yes
UK:earthing = North America: grounding
And it does sound like a grounding problem. Possibly the amp, or maybe the bridge of the guitar. (the hint is that touching the ctrings with your finger(s) changes the hum.)
Take a wander aroundthis website and see if some of the testimonials sound familliar.
I wrapped a newspaper ’round my head
So I looked like I was deep
yesterday i stepped on the cord, and the whole plug-in mechanism came out of the guitar. when i looked, the place that the screws sit was totally chewed up. it had been screwed in maybe a half a dozen times, and a large chunk of wood came out with it. i electrical taped it back together again. i'm either gonna have to take this back, or just use it as my "learn how to rebuild a guitar" guitar, since it's like a $100 guitar. i had hopes of painting this thing and maybe replacing the pickups and a whole bunch of other stuff... it's also fretting out around the 20th fret.
i think i'm gonna return it this weekend. oh well.
ack sorry to hear that i just bought my first guitar a few months ago used unfortunatly and there were a few chips on the bacl and down by the cable input but oh well! ;]
