Kristal was the one I recommended about 8 replies ago and yes it does handle VST plugins.

So you did. I'd like to point out, for anyone who cares about that kind of thing, that Kristal is just free as in beer, and not free as in freedom, like Audacity. On the other hand, Audacity doesn't let you play through effects in real time.
I have absolutely no clue at all what your saying, so what do you mean? Free beer? Free freedom? :?
The best I can tell is the only difference as far as "free" goes between Audacity and Kristal is that Audacity is open source which fundamentally means public domain and Kristal is a proprietary software. Kristal is however free for none commercial use.
Quote from their web site "KRISTAL Audio Engine is free for personal, educational and non-commercial use."
FREE BEER! WHERE!?!?!?
I have absolutely no clue at all what your saying, so what do you mean? Free beer? Free freedom? :?
Free as in beer means you can get it for free. Free as in freedom means you can do what you like with it, including modifying it.
I just checked the Audacity web site, and here's what they have on the subject. "Free software is not just free of cost (like “free beerâ€). It is free as in freedom (like “free speechâ€). Free software gives you the freedom to use a program, study how it works, improve it, and share it with others."
There's always Ardour...

That sounds like a Richard Stallman quote. I love his ideas about free beer, but I cant seem to read anything he's written for more than a minute or two without getting a headache.
The free as in free speech part is a bit misleading. You are free to study, use, and change it to your liking, but you are then allowed to charge people if you distribute it from what I remember. It's like if someone gives you a piece of paper that they manufactured, then you drew on the paper (to make it better, or at least different enough to where no one just looks and says "that's a piece of paper") and sold it for thousands of dollars as art. At least that's how it was explained to me.
Our songs also have the standard pop format: Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, bad solo. All in all, I think we sound like The Knack and the Bay City Rollers being molested by Black Flag and Black Sabbath.

Yes, you can sell it, but code must also be available under GPL.
Also from the Audactiy web site:

Nils, any idea if it is somehow possible to use more then two effects on each individual track simultaneously?

There is no way that I know of to put more than 2 effects on one track at the same time. I have worked around it by putting any common effects on the master (like the limiter) or saving the single track as a mix down then reading it back in and applying more effects. Kind of kludgey and you do get some weird effects at times.
Sometimes I dulipcate the track to add different effects.
Hey even though i hav downloaded kristal yet i can't understand how to record in it.There are SO many mixers. Its quite confusing
You have not said so I am curious if you got anything working for you :?:
