Monday night I found this site about cigar box guitars. I instantly thought "I can do that" and started planning it in my head. Hte planning involved a lot of internet searching for similar projects so I could see diferent solutions to different problems and find the ones that suited my needs and assets the best.
The next day I stumbled upon the cookie tin banjo, perfect. I went to the hardware store and bought the materials and tools I needed.
Three days of hard work I have this:
If you want any pictures in other angles just tell me and I'll fix it.
looks like a nice job, how does it play?
seems like the frets would be the hardest part, how about some close ups and details on how you did it?
i have had the "foxfire" series of books for years and i remember seeing a banjo project.

The bridge bolt is way too big so the action at the higher frets is horribly high. It doesn't sound very banjo like but that's most likeley because of the strings. The strings I use is just some steel electric guitar strings. Some day next week I will buy some banjo strings and tune it like a banjo too, now it's just tuned like a guitar without the E and A strings.
cute!
It doesn't sound very banjo like but...
...and this is a bad thing?...... :)
Seriously, if you get a chance to download Shane Speal's "High Noon" or "Jesus is Comin' Soon", do it. Makes me want to build the "mailbox dobro"....

They say only a pawnshop guitar can play the blues. An eBay one does it better. A guitar's bound to feel unloved if her owner plasters pictures of her over the internet for all to see and then sells her off to the highest anonymous bidder.
Hmmm I'm trying to figure out if they were Butter Cookies or Macaroons.. LOL

nice job. I bet getting at the insides is easy; just pop the lid.
I like the painting design on the can too. maybe you should have had the decorated side to the front.
frets are a pain to inlay . I can tell.
all in all a great idea and a fun project.

Erm.....how would that affect sustain and tone, in contrast to, for example, seedcake?
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

Knowing Fruitcakes last forever, I would think sustain would also.
