Naa, as long as you get a pretty fast jet I think you'll have the time difference in your favor.

Jim

It's time travel Jim, but not as we know it..... (who used to say things like that?... was it Star Trek??)

OK...Starting January 2nd I will be taking a day job  I have not had one of those in about 30 years  I have worked the graveyard shift (mostly weekends) for as long as I can remember. That means I have not played in a band since about 1981  So...I have decided on the goal of starting a band in the new year. Something along the lines of geo's band (Mojo Monday) Sort of blues, traditional country, rock-n-roll, song writer stuff. Its been a long time since I have been in a band so any advice on starting a band is greatly appreciated :D --ken

OK - we're there! :D

How's the band going? 8)

Well, maybe a few hours into the first day of the new job routine isn't quite enough time to be doing the first gig....

But is there any progress on looking for band members? And how's the change-over of working hours going?

Cheers,

Chris

I started yesterday, Darn there is a lot of people around a hospital in the daytime  I think I will start hanging around some open mic nights in the near future. I think a bunch of us should start a hippie commune with a band 8) We could rent a farm and live off the land ... hold free concerts ...wow man...far out ...groovy 8) 8)

I used to work in a hospital years ago - in the lowest of positions - and I found that too. The place was swarming with people, and the worst thing was that many of them seemed to be ill in some way... And those that weren't sick seemed to be there specifically to boss me around and give me work to do.... :?

I've quite enjoyed my few brief forays into working odd hours. I always loved those early morning hours when you got the streets of a town or city almost to yourself, as everybody else was in bed.

Hope the change goes well anyway.

you are set for the hours...bands work at night. all the bands Ive been in start an hour after the announced set time. I cant count the number of times we had to go on at midnight.
during the workday week I am in bed by ten! it was difficult having both sets of hours to keep sometimes.

bands are great work and fun. personalities are important over prowess. dont hire the guitar wank genius if he/she is an ass.
hire the nice person that may need time to develop chops. group effort is best.

best wishes.

Congrats, Smokindog. I'm sure you can come up with a great band.

I just went from working 2nd shift to a day job in the last 6 months. It was an adjustment having to get up early but it is well worth it now that I have my evenings and weekends free.
The hard part will be playing in the band until late and then having to get up for work.

All my life I wanted to be somebody. Now I see I should have been more specific.

That's pretty much been my MO for 30 years. Playing til 2 in the morning and having to be at work 4-6 hours later, functional.

I'm used to it now. Anymore than 6 hours of sleep and I'm out of whack.

My advice is to pick me as your rhythm player/singer.

Good job going back on days!
