This one is advertised here in Norway
http://www.finn.no/finn/bap/object?finnkode=7143466

1000,- NOK is roughly 120$

Think it would have been cool to have a 12 string. I do not really have any money to spend on guitars but this one is tempting still... Any opinions?

12 strings are hit or miss and definately not something you want to skimp on. Tuning and intonation can be sketchy on cheaper guitars and can lead to major frustration. I'd say if you can't actually put your hands on it and give it a play before buying your probably better off without it.

Oh - I would definitely play it first - not far away from where I live. It seems to get decent review at harmony central http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data4/Eko/Ranger_12-1.html

Anyone here who has an EKO?

I have never ever tried to tune a 12 string BTW.

For the money it looks OK, you can always put six strings on it and use it for a slide guitar if the action is to high, but it looks OK to me--the dog

Funny how life works sometimes. One of my student's father found his old Eko in the attic while cleaning and asked me to take a look at it. I'd never heard of the brand before (I think they are made in Italy).

Anyway, even though this has been sitting around for ages in the either way-too-humid or equally-way-too-dry Berkshires, it plays incredibly well and sounds terrific. Will sound better with new strings. There are a few cracks in the finish and an expert should probably take a good look at the neck to make certain there aren't problems (I couldn't see any, but I'm not even close to being good at spotting these things), but it's a very good guitar. Felt wonderful in my hands, even though it was upside down!

It reminded me a lot of my old Yamaha guitar. I've a feeling that it would be a great workhorse that you could cart around anywhere and play under almost any condition.

For that price I don't think you could go wrong.

Peace

Eko is an Italian company, but I don't know whether they still build there. You do occasionally get Eko gear appearing on ebay - some of their guitars are reminiscent of 1960's Japanese designs.

May not help with larsko's question, but there are a couple of pics of 12 strings.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

Thanks GB -

If the weird looking pick guard is anything to go by the guitar I'm looking at is a Ranger 12

"12 string guitar. Adjustable rosewood bridge, Pearl Block inlays on the fingerboard, Double T-bar neck reinforcement with adjustment rod. Removable neck. Purfled(???) fingerboard and body. Florentine guardplate"

No response from the seller yet.

It is an Eko ranger - I've got one of those. I've jammed with another guy who had one, too. It's good kit.

Use light strings - after 25 years my bridge saddle is slightly seperated from the soundboard. Not enough to cause a problem yet, but in another 20 years....

Best,

A :-)
